East Rutherford, N.J. -- The Buffalo Bills are back in New Jersey to take on the New York Giants - the other “New York” franchise - in their bid to start the 2019 season 2-0 after a Week 1 comeback win over the New York Jets.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen was sensational in the fourth quarter last week, throwing for 102 yards on 8 of 10 passing while engineering two fourth-quarter touchdown drives to bring Buffalo back from 16-0 down to win in the final three minutes. The game-winning 38-yard touchdown score came on a passing play from Allen to new No. 1 wide receiver John Brown, who made a nice read on a ball Allen threw short on a play the two have been working on the past few weeks.

Giants coach Pat Shurmur made news earlier this week when he doubled down on a pre-draft evaluation of Allen, saying that Allen “had a chance to be a starter in the NFL.”

The following day Bills coach Sean McDermott had NFL Network reporter Kim Jones’ tweet featuring Shurmer’s quote posted on multiple TVs in the Bills’ practice facility. When asked about doing so McDermott didn’t want to address it and said its purpose was for internal messaging.

The entire drama added some intrigue to the matchup between the teams, but Shurmer walked back the comments on Friday. He called Allen "an outstanding young player with a bright future.

The Bills defense enters Sunday’s game on quite a streak against the the pass. They extended their streak of straight game of allowing less than 210 passing yards in a game to nine last week. The last team to do it this many games in a row (dating back to 2018) was the Seattle Seahawks in 2013-14. Bills edge rusher Jerry Hughes recorded 1.5 sacks last week and led the pass rush effort for Buffalo en route to a four-sack performance last week. Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was under duress all afternoon, getting hit 10 times in the game.

The Giants will be without their top two receivers on Sunday, which won’t help New York quarterback Eli Manning in his attempts to move the ball against Buffalo. Golden Tate is serving the second game of a four-game suspension and Sterling Shepard is in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

On the Bills side, slot cornerback Taron Johnson, who left last week’s game with a hamstring injury, didn’t practice all week and is out against the Giants. That means safety-turned-slot cornerback Siran Neal will likely get the start after a tough outing in relief of Johnson last week. Pro Bowl kick returner Andre Roberts is also out with a quad injury. Tight end Tyler Kroft, who broke his foot back in OTAs, is progressing and was upgraded from doubtful against the Jets to questionable against the Giants. He’s still likely to be help out.
