Week 4 concludes in the NFL with, well, quite a lousy game as the Cincinnati Bengals visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night in an AFC North matchup. The Steelers are 4.5-point opening favourites at Sports Interaction.

NFL Monday Night Football Point Spread and Betting
It’s a shame the Bengals and Steelers stink because otherwise this could have been a tremendous week of prime-time games with Eagles-Packers on Thursday and Cowboys-Saints on Sunday. Check out my previews of those. The NFL schedule-makers obviously can only speculate on which teams they think are worthy of showcasing on “Monday Night Football.”

The Steelers are usually one of the NFL’s marquee franchises, but their season went off the rails in Week 2 when future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was lost to a season-ending elbow injury. The Bengals, frankly, were never expected to be very good in 2019 under first-year coach Zac Taylor. This could be Andy Dalton’s last season as the team’s starting quarterback.

Pittsburgh has dominated its division rival, winning eight straight (including playoffs) and 11 of the past 12 against Cincinnati. Last year, the Steelers won the first meeting 28-21 in southern Ohio on a 31-yard TD pass from Roethlisberger to Antonio Brown with 10 seconds left. In Pittsburgh, it was a 16-13 win in Week 17 – Brown didn’t play because of a tiff with the team, which helped lead to his eventual trade. It was also the last game as Bengals coach for Marvin Lewis.

The Steelers have covered 18 of the past 26 meetings. The total has gone under in five of the previous seven.

Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati remained winless Sunday with a 21-17 win in Buffalo – to be fair, this club isn’t far from being 2-1. Down 14-7 midway through the third quarter, the Bengals took a 17-14 lead with just under five minutes left but allowed the game-winning touchdown run with 1:50 to go. On third-and-5 at the Buffalo 28 with 20 seconds left, Dalton was picked off. He threw for 249 yards with a touchdown and two picks. Dalton also ran for a score. Defensive end Carl Lawson and offensive tackle Cordy Glenn both missed the game with injuries and top WR A.J. Green has yet to play in 2019 following ankle surgery. Not likely to here, either. Cincinnati has covered its past six on the road.

Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers began life without Big Ben with a 24-20 loss in San Francisco to also fall to 0-3. They allowed the game-winning 5-yard touchdown pass with 1:15 to go. Young Mason Rudolph was up-and-down in his first career start, completing 14 of 27 for 174 yards with two touchdowns and a pick. Not often you will see a team lose when it forces five turnovers as Pittsburgh did. The 49ers forced two turnovers and scored a touchdown off each. Minkah Fitzpatrick made his Steelers debut after a trade from Miami and had an interception and forced fumble. Pittsburgh is 4-1 ATS in its past five on Monday.

Redemption Sunday is on tap for the Seattle Seahawks (2-1) will take on the Arizona Cardinals (0-2-1) in a key early-season NFC West matchup. These two teams are in a position where they need to keep pace with the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers who are off to blazing 3-0 starts in 2019.

Seattle was all over the place in their 33-27 loss at home to the New Orleans Saints. The loss to New Orleans was the first at home in the month of September under head coach Pete Carroll. Turnovers and missed tackles on Alvin Kamara ended up costing them dearly. The Saints scored on defense and special teams, which in the NFL is a great way to win on the road. However, for the Seahawks, it's a one-way ticket to lose, which they did despite outgaining New Orleans. Chris Carson continued to have issues with ball security as his fumble in the second quarter resulted in a touchdown for the Saints. Seattle seems set on continuing to rely on Carson but at the end of the day running backs can't fumble the ball and stay employed in the NFL.

Arizona is coming off of a 38-20 loss at home to the Carolina Panthers last Sunday at home. The Cardinals did not have any answers for Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen and the rest of his offense. Allen was 19-for-26 for 261 yards and threw four touchdowns passes in his first start for an injured Cam Newton. Arizona's offensive line had a rough day as Carolina racked up eight sacks, including three by Mario Addison. Kyler Murray had a so-so performance as he was effective using his legs (69 rushing yards), but he finished with just 173 passing yards and tossed a couple of interceptions, If the Cardinals can't consistently protect Murray it will be a challenge for him to get through the season unscathed health-wise.

Seattle at Arizona

Kickoff: Sunday, Sept. 29 at 4:05 p.m. ET

Spread: Seahawks -4

Three Things to Watch

1. Seahawks secondary vs. Cardinals wide receivers

This week should provide an opportunity for the Seattle secondary to pick up some confidence as they appear to have the advantage talent-wise over the Arizona wide receivers. The Seahawks are currently giving up 250.7 passing yards per game, which ranks 16th in the NFL. They are definitely a secondary that has bent but not broken yet as far as giving up the big pass play on a regular basis. Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk have been Kyler Murray's favorite targets early on and it would help if they could find a way to get open in the middle of the field or on their intermediate routes. The Cardinals' Air Raid offense has been effective in moving the ball between the 20s, using a lot of quick passes and variety of screens. But head coach Kliff Kingsbury has to find a way to stress the Seattle secondary like Cincinnati did back in Week 1. Young receivers like Keesean Johnson will get more of an opportunity to make more plays following the release of veteran Michael Crabtree earlier this week.

2. Russell Wilson vs. Kyler Murray

Wilson is the veteran mobile quarterback who set the standard for future undersized mobile quarterbacks like Murray. Wilson is off to a strong start in 2019, completing 71.4 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and no interceptions. Last week, Wilson did all he could to win the game as he completed 32-of-50 passes for 406 yards and two scores, along with 53 rushing yards and two more touchdowns on the ground. Murray is completing 61.3 percent of his passes but has nearly as many interceptions (three) as touchdowns (four) thus far. Consistency is going to be critical for Murray moving forward and he needs to do a better job of getting rid of the football, as his offensive line has had trouble protecting him (16 sacks allowed). Murray has a strong enough arm to take shots downfield. If he's able to connect on a few of those it will force defenses to devote more resources to pass coverage and probably reduce the number of blitzes he sees.

3. Battle of the running games

The Seahawks made their reputation in 2018 by running the ball consistently and ended up ranking first in the NFL in rushing offense. This year has been a different story as opposing defensive coordinators are daring Wilson to beat them throwing the ball. It will be up to Seattle's offensive line to set the tone from the opening series and impose their will on Chandler Jones and the Arizona defensive front. The ability to open up holes should take some pressure of Carson and the rest of the running backs to focus on attacking the holes and moving the chains. For the Cardinals, they need to give David Johnson more of a chance to grind out yardage. He's averaging just 3.7 yards per carry but has totaled just 18 rushing attempts over the last two weeks after getting 18 in Week 1 alone. Running the ball effectively is another way to ease some of the pressure on Murray.

Final Analysis

Both teams are going to come out with plenty of urgency as the Seahawks have playoff aspirations in 2019 and can ill afford a loss to Arizona. Meanwhile, the Cardinals simply need to get their first win for their overall peace of mind as the season approaches the quarter pole. Russell Wilson should be able to make enough plays in the passing game to Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf, and Will Dissly to propel Seattle to about a seven-point win. These games at State Farm Stadium between these two division rivals are usually a bit unpredictable and this one will not be any different. The Seahawks will win by a touchdown and improve to 3-1 on the season.

Prediction: Seahawks 27, Cardinals 20

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be traveling to United Airlines Field at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum this upcoming Sunday to take on the Los Angeles Rams.

Tampa Bay is coming off a brutal loss to the New York Giants where they blew an 18-point lead. That defeat puts the team's record at a pedestrian 1-2. Meanwhile, the Rams (3-0) have opened their NFC title defense a perfect 3-0 but have yet to look really impressive in any of their games.

It will be interesting to see if Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians and company can stop that LA momentum as both teams reach the quarter point of the regular season.

Tampa Bay at Los Angeles

Kickoff: Sunday, Sept. 29 at 4:05 p.m. ET

TV: FOX

Spread: Rams -9

Three Things to Watch

1. Tampa Bay... road warriors?

The sample size is way too small to be able to get an accurate representation, but it is worth noting that Tampa Bay is 0-2 on the season at home and 1-0 on the road.

Yet again, that is not enough of a sample size to label these Buccaneers "road warriors." But it might be time to consider it if they come away with a victory, especially considering it would be against one of the last unbeaten teams in the NFL. The Tampa Bay defense put up its best effort in the 20-14 Week 2 win in Carolina, holding Christian McCaffrey to just 37 rushing yards and sacking Cam Newton three times.

2. Can the Shaq sack streak continue?

In many ways, Shaq Barrett was a castoff on the Denver Broncos. He put up decent numbers (22.0 sacks in his last four seasons), but the team elected not to re-sign him when his contract came up for renewal.

Well, the Broncos' loss is Tampa Bay’s gain. Barrett leads the NFL in sacks (8.0) in 2019, which includes 7.0 sacks over the last two games alone.

The Rams are in the middle of the pack when it comes to sacks allowed (2.0 per game), but the tackle duo of Andrew Whitworth and Rob Havenstein is usually steady. Can Barrett continue to find success on Sunday?

3. Which version of Jameis Winston shows up?

Winston had a rocky start to the season. In the 31-17 Week 1 loss to San Francisco, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft threw for less than 200 yards while tossing three interceptions (plus two fumbles) and only one touchdown. To make matters worse, two of Winston's picks were returned for touchdowns by the 49ers.

Since then, he's produced 588 passing yards, four touchdowns and only one interception in the last two weeks. He has been sacked seven times during that span (and 10 on the season) so that's definitely something to keep an eye on going up against a Rams defense that features two-time reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald.

Are Winston's recent numbers sustainable for a guy who has thrown 62 interceptions in 59 career games? The answer to that question will go a long way in determining if the Bucs have a chance to at least keep things close on Sunday.

Final Analysis

The Buccaneers have a lot of offensive talent, but the defense still leaves a lot to be desired — especially with rookie linebacker Devin White possibly on the shelf for a second consecutive week.

Combine that with being on the road against Sean McVay' high-powered offense, and it does not exactly look like a recipe for success for Tampa Bay.

In the end, the Rams prove to be too much and move to 4-0 on the season. Meanwhile, the Bucs fall to 1-3 in Arians' first season as head coach.

Prediction: Rams 27, Buccaneers 17

The NFC North takes a huge spotlight in Week 4, and it will conclude with this "Black and Blue" divisional matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears. Both teams are 2-1 but took different paths to get to this point. The Vikings began the season by running over, through, and around the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1, fell short against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2, but got back in the win column by dominating the Oakland Raiders last week. After a sluggish performance against the Green Bay Packers on opening night, the Bears have since won two straight against Denver and Washington by a combined score of 47-29.

The Packers fell at home to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night. And depending on what happens between the Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs earlier Sunday, the winner of this game could claim at least a share of first place in the NFC North.

Minnesota at Chicago

Kickoff: Sunday, Sept. 29 at 4:25 p.m. ET

TV: CBS

Spread: Bears -1.5

Three Things to Watch

1. The resurgent Chicago Bears

Things certainly didn't look good after the opening night loss to Green Bay. The defense did everything they could to keep the Bears competitive, but the offense came out flat, couldn't get the ball moving, and thus couldn't score a touchdown. Since then Matt Nagy's offense has slowly been getting into a rhythm, the defense is starting to impose its will, and Eddy Pineiro's done his part with five field goals, including the game-winner at Denver. Over the last two games, Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has completed 70 percent of his passes for 351 yards and three touchdowns. He still has room for improvement when it comes to decision-making (has two INTs on the season), pocket presence (been sacked eight times), and accuracy (65 percent completion rate).

Rookie running back David Montgomery has essentially taken over as the feature back (37 carries, 147 yards, 4.0 ypc, TD) while the Bears could use more production from Pro Bowler Tarik Cohen. Wide receivers Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel have been productive (combined for 313 receiving yards, Gabriel has 3 TD catches), but the tight end position is still a work in progress (13 combined receptions for 86 yards from Trey Burton, Adam Shaheen, Ben Braunecker).

On defense, the Bears got back to their havoc-causing ways last week by creating five turnovers (three INTs, two fumbles) and scoring a touchdown (INT return by Ha Ha Clinton-Dix) in the win over the Redskins. Chicago currently ranks third in sacks (11) and interceptions (four), and are once again doing a good job against the run (68.7 ypg, fifth).

The Vikings' game plan will probably focus on slowing down the Bears' pass rush and make Trubisky beat them with his arm.

2. The Vikings are the total package

Even with Kirk Cousins at quarterback, Minnesota has focused on one thing this season – running the ball. After two injury-plagued campaigns, Dalvin Cook is leading the NFL in rushing with 375 yards and he has four touchdowns. The change in offensive approach and additions along the offensive line have paid off in a big way as Cook is averaging a robust 6.6 yards per carry and already has four runs of 20-plus yards.

Cousins (502 yds., 3 TDs, 2 INTs) hasn't had to throw the ball much because of the success running the ball, but he still has game-changing weapons in wide receivers Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, along with reliable tight end Kyle Rudolph. Cousins also has been sacked just twice in the first three games.

The Vikings' defense also is off to another strong start, holding teams to under 16 points per game and among the league leaders with 10 sacks. Minnesota also has generated four takeaways in three games, three of those being interceptions.

Cook will undoubtedly be the focus of the Bears on defense, as slowing him down will force Cousins to throw more and then Chicago will try and use its pressure to rattle him into some mistakes.

3. Injuries

Both teams have concerns in this department. Minnesota starting right guard Josh Kline (concussion) and reserve linebacker Kentrell Brothers (wrist/hamstring) have been ruled out and cornerback Mackensie Alexander (elbow) is listed as questionable.

Chicago's injured list features more names. Defensive end Bilal Nichols (hand) and wide receiver Taylor Gabriel (concussion) will not play while Akiem Hicks (knee), tight end Trey Burton (groin), and left guard Kyle Long (hip) are questionable. Hicks and Long did not take part in practice on Friday while Burton was limited. Hicks and Long will probably end up being game-time decisions while Burton should be fine unless something happens during warm-ups.

Kicker Eddy Pineiro is dealing with a pinched nerve in his knee, which happened during a workout in the weight room last week. He was able to play through it and went 1-for-2 on field goals (made from 38 yards out, missed from 34) and was a perfect 4-for-4 on PATs but he did not handle kickoffs out of caution. Pineiro hasn't practiced this week but the expectation is he will be out there when called upon on Sunday.

Running back Mike Davis returned to practice on Friday after being away from the team to be with his family after the passing of his father. Davis does not have an injury designation and neither does All-Pro safety Eddie Jackson, who missed some practice time due to an elbow injury. Right tackle Bobby Massie also is expected to return after missing the Monday night game due to illness.

Final Analysis

The Bears and Vikings are even (3-3) against one another since 2016, but two of those wins for the Bears have come at Soldier Field. Minnesota has gone 3-5-1 in their last nine road games. The Bears are 7-3 in their last 10 home games, outscoring those visitors 243-166. Home-field advantage will help propel the Bears to victory in a tightly-contested, hard-hitting game.

The Denver Broncos (0-3) will play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2) on Sunday in the Mile High City. While it's probably too soon for either of these teams to hit the panic button, desperation has to be setting in for the Broncos and first-year head coach Vic Fangio after a winless start. It marks the Broncos first 0-3 start since 1999. And they have now lost seven consecutive games dating back to last season - currently the longest losing streak in the NFL.

Following last Sunday's 27-16 loss at Green Bay, Broncos' wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders described his team’s current predicament as "living in a world of suck." On Tuesday, he described it in slightly more eloquent terms, stating "We're not creating turnovers on defense and we're turning the ball over on offense. We can't do that, that is a recipe for disaster. That's why we’re sitting at 0-3." That is a fair and accurate depiction of Denver's early-season woes. But Sanders also was quick to point out that he believes his team is on the verge of reversing its fortunes. Apparently, oddsmakers agree, making the Broncos 3-point favorites on Sunday. But they will still have to prove it on the field.

The first three weeks of the season have been chock-full of bizarre twists and compelling storylines for the Jacksonville Jaguars, starting with the loss of quarterback Nick Foles (broken collarbone) in a 40-26 loss to the Chiefs in Week 1. That, of course, gave rise to rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew, his legendary mustache and "Minshew Mania."

Week 2 somehow proved to be even more eventful, as Jacksonville literally came up an inch short on a potential game-winning two-point conversion attempt on the road against AFC South rival Houston. The result — a heartbreaking 13-12 loss, which also set the stage for the Jalen Ramsey saga.

But if Week 3 was any indication, a resilient Jacksonville team has no intention of letting the Ramsey drama become a distraction. The Jaguars steamrolled division foe Tennessee on "Thursday Night Football." And now, the well-rested Jags will look to carry that momentum into Denver in search of another upset victory.

Meanwhile, Ramsey has been away from the team since Wednesday as he traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, for the birth of his second daughter, who arrived Friday. He's officially listed as questionable (Not Injury Related) for Sunday's game and he's also been dealing with a lower back issue. The star cornerback remains adamant in his desire to be traded.

Jacksonville at Denver

Kickoff: Sunday, Sept. 29 at 4:25 p.m. ET

TV Channel: CBS

Spread: Denver -3

Three Things to Watch

1. Will the sack/takeaway drought finally come to an end for the Broncos?

The Denver Broncos have earned the distinction of being the first NFL team in the last 50 years to have zero sacks and zero takeaways through the first three games of a season. It’s as shocking as it is unpleasant for a defense that was expected to rank near the top of the league in both of those categories this season under new head coach/defensive guru Vic Fangio.

The biggest surprise is that the elite pass-rushing tandem of Von Miller and Bradley Chubb, who combined for 26.5 sacks last season, has yet to record a single sack heading into Week 4. In fact, Chubb is the only player on the entire Denver defense that has even touched an opposing quarterback this season, with three quarterback hits to his credit. The lack of pressure, in turn, has hampered the Broncos' ability to generate turnovers. It's also a big reason why the Broncos are 0-3 right now.

While you have to like Denver's chances to end the sack/takeaway drought at home against a backup rookie quarterback, Gardner Minshew has not looked like your typical backup rookie quarterback through the first three games. Minshew's mustache, alone, should be enough to keep him safe. But if the magical powers of the 'stache somehow come up short in that endeavor, Minshew has a solid offensive line to fall back on. The Jacksonville O-line has allowed the fourth-fewest sacks (5) and third-fewest QB hits (11) in the NFL through three games. Regardless, the Broncos are capable and must find a way to make life difficult for Minshew and company to get over the hump in this matchup.

2. Will Minshew Mania continue to thrive in Denver?

Mustache jokes aside, the Jaguars' sixth-round draft pick out of Washington State has generated a legitimate buzz with his stellar play to this point. Minshew has thrown five touchdown passes to just one interception in three games, with no less than 204 passing yards in any of those contests. Better yet, his 73.9 percent completion rate and 110.6 passer rating are the highest ever recorded by a rookie quarterback through three games.

Minshew will be the first to admit that he has had plenty of help. The aforementioned Jacksonville offensive line certainly deserves some of the credit. The emergence of Minshew's favorite target, DJ Chark Jr., has paid big dividends as well. The one area in which Minshew could use more help is the running game. Leonard Fournette does not have more than 66 rushing yards in a game this season, and the Jaguars have yet to score a single touchdown on the ground.

The question is, will Minshew continue to find success in Denver this Sunday? It's hard to bet against him at this point, but there is no question that this will be a tough matchup for the rookie quarterback on the road. Denver ranks sixth in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (204.7) and has surrendered just two touchdowns through the air in three games. And despite the Broncos' struggles to generate sacks and turnovers to this point in the season, they certainly have the talent in place to change that on Sunday. Minshew and company will have their work cut out for them.

3. The Denver offense vs. the Jacksonville defense

The Denver offense will have its work cut out as well. The Broncos have been able to move the ball downfield with some success this season. The problem is, they always seem to find a way to shoot themselves in the foot with costly turnovers and untimely penalties. They also have a quarterback in Joe Flacco that holds on to the football too long at times, and an offensive line that could be a real liability on Sunday against a Jaguar pass rush that is tied for the league-lead with 13 sacks.

Sacksonville wreaked havoc on a lackluster Titans offensive line en route to nine sacks last week. Elite pass rusher Calais Campbell was responsible for three of those sacks to garner AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. And much like last week, you can probably expect to see Campbell move around in a bid to exploit weaknesses in the Broncos' offensive front. It will make for a long day for Flacco if his offensive line isn't up for the challenge. The good news is that Jacksonville is giving up 254.7 passing yards per game (18th in the NFL), and the Jaguars' secondary will be even more vulnerable on Sunday without Jalen Ramsey. But again, success in the passing game will largely hinge on the offensive line's ability to give Flacco time to find open receivers, and that's a tall order in this matchup.

However, don't be surprised if Denver finds some success with the one-two punch of Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman on Sunday. The Jaguars' run defense can be suspect at times and currently ranks just 16th in the NFL, allowing 109.3 rushing yards per game. They also have allowed five rushing touchdowns in three games.

Final Analysis

The Jaguars are coming into this matchup with some steam. They also have a scary pass rush that has the potential to cause real problems for the statuesque Joe Flacco and a Denver offense that is already prone to mistakes. Gardner Minshew hasn't given us any real reason to doubt him to this point either.

But Minshew has never felt the wrath of a Mile High crowd. And he might just be in over his head against a very hungry defense, in a very tough environment on Sunday. Von Miller and Bradley Chubb are going to break through sooner than later and this feels like the week. It's most likely going to be an ugly defensive struggle as well, which is even more reason to like Vic Fangio and the Broncos to squeak out their first win of the season in front of the home crowd.

After passing their first test without Drew Brees, the New Orleans Saints are back home to host the undefeated Dallas Cowboys for "Sunday Night Football."

Without their future Hall of Fame quarterback, the Saints (2-1) appeared to be headed for a downward spiral into mediocrity. In response, they assembled a true, team-wide effort in beating Seattle 33-27 last week. Both the defense and special teams scored a touchdown in the first half when the offense was struggling. Alvin Kamara served as Teddy Bridgewater’s security blanket, catching nine passes for 92 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 69 yards and a score.

Dallas is 3-0 after beating Miami 31-6 at home but it took the Cowboys a half to get going. Dallas jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter but the offense stalled after that and two Dolphins field goals made it just a four-point game at halftime. Miami even had a chance to potentially grab the lead but fumbled the ball away at the Cowboys' seven-yard line. After the intermission, the home team scored on its first two possessions to essentially put the game away.

Dallas leads the all-time series between these two teams, 17-12. New Orleans is 8-6 at home against the Cowboys. Dallas won the last meeting, beating the Saints 13-10 in Week 13 last season.

Dallas at New Orleans

Kickoff: Sunday, Sept. 28 at 8:20 p.m. ET

TV: NBC

Spread: Saints +2.5

Three Things to Watch

1. Will Ezekiel Elliott be able to run on the Saints?

After giving up 180 rushing yards in Week 1 to Houston, New Orleans has stiffened some in that respect. The Los Angeles Rams posted 115 yards on 30 carries in Week 2 and last Sunday, Seattle managed 109 yards on the ground on 26 attempts. The Saints are still near the bottom (26th) of the NFL in rushing defense (134.3 ypg) but some progress has been made.

Meanwhile, Elliott appears to be slowly rounding into form himself, which is understandable considering he missed all of training camp due to his contract holdout. After putting up 53 rushing yards in the season opener, Elliott has posted 226 on 42 carries (5.4 ypc) over his last two games.

Elliott has faced New Orleans just once in his career. In last season's Week 13 meeting, he picked up 75 yards on 23 carries, but he also had six receptions for 60 yards and Dallas' lone touchdown. Whether he's a runner or a receiver, Elliott is sure to draw plenty of attention from the Saints defense.

2. Which Cowboys pass catcher rises to the occasion?

Injuries have dealt Dallas’ receiving corps a formidable blow. One starter, Michael Gallup, had knee surgery recently and is set to miss his second game. His running mate, Amari Cooper has already dealt with a strained left heel which kept him from playing in the preseason, and earlier this week he underwent an MRI on his right ankle. The good news is the MRI came back clean and Cooper has been a limited participant in practice this week. Tavon Austin also has missed the last two games because of a concussion and has yet to be fully cleared, although he has been able to practice in a limited capacity.

In light of these injuries, the Cowboys could use more production from Randall Cobb, Devin Smith, as well as tight end Jason Witten. Cobb has made his presence known in his first season in Dallas, as he currently ranks third on the team in receptions (11) and receiving yards (116). Witten may not be the prolific pass catcher he once was, but he's still a reliable target and has two touchdown catches in the early going. Devin Smith replaced Gallup in the lineup and he made a splash in the Week 2 win over Washington when he caught three passes for 74 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown.

With Gallup out and Cooper banged up, the Cowboys are not at full strength at receiver. So will someone else step up and help Dak Prescott maintain his red-hot start? Or will New Orleans be able to contain a Dallas passing game that's averaging more than 300 yards per game and has already produced nine touchdowns?

3. Can the Saints special teams come up big again?

With the catalyst of the offense, Drew Brees, set to miss the next several weeks, others will have to step up in his absence. At the top of that list is Teddy Bridgewater, who was solid (19-for-27, 177 yds., 2 TDs) but not spectacular against Seattle, but he will need help. Last week against the Seahawks, New Orleans got a fumble return for a touchdown from safety Vonn Bell and a 53-yard punt return for a score from Deonte Harris. Harris also had two nice kickoff returns (28 and 32 yards). Punter Thomas Morestead got into the act with a pair of punts in the first half that pinned the Seahawks inside their five-yard line. For the game, Morestead averaged 54 yards on his six punts.

It won't be easy for the Saints moving forward without their future Hall of Fame quarterback at the controls, but if they continue to get well-rounded efforts like what they put together against Seattle that will certainly help navigate this upcoming stretch of games.

Final Analysis

If the past few meetings between these teams serve as an indicator, this will be a nail-biter. The Cowboys halted a fourth-quarter rally by the Saints in Jerry World last season for a 13-10 victory. In 2015, the Cowboys scored a game-tying touchdown inside the final two minutes of regulation only to allow Drew Brees to throw an 80-yard, catch-and-run pass to C.J. Spiller less than 20 seconds into overtime. In 2012, Tony Romo threw two touchdown passes in the final four minutes to force overtime yet he sat helplessly on the sideline as the Saints made a chip-shot field goal on the first possession of overtime.

Viewers should expect this contest to go down the final minute. Someone will score crucially very late in the fourth quarter. The only question is whether that score will force overtime.

Prediction: Cowboys 26, Saints 23

Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will be the backdrop for a matchup between a pair of NFL teams looking to get back to .500 when the Tennessee Titans take on the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The Titans embarrassed the Browns in Week 1, 43-13, but have followed that up with two uninspiring efforts vs AFC South foes. Meanwhile, the Falcons also are staring at a 1-2 mark, with their lone victory coming two weeks ago at home over the Eagles.

This game will feature a high-powered offense on its own turf against a stingy defense, with the end goal being evening up the record a quarter of the way through the regular season.

Tennessee at Atlanta

Kickoff: Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. ET

TV: CBS

Spread: Atlanta -4

Three Things to Watch

1. Titans' offensive line needs to get on track

Tennessee's offensive line has been a disaster thus far. Jacksonville was able to harass Marcus Mariota on "Thursday Night Football" last week to the tune of nine sacks. It was a minor miracle that Mariota didn't turn the ball over once while dealing with the most pressure he's faced in his career. How this mash unit performs against the Falcons' front four will be of the utmost importance. Atlanta enters this game with five sacks but did a good job of getting after Carson Wentz two weeks ago at home.

The Titans must be able to establish Derrick Henry and give Mariota time to throw when he drops back. Mariota must scan the field and find the open target quickly, and then make an accurate throw. It's been a perfect storm of negatives for this offense in the early going. Mariota is taking a ton of abuse. He is not seeing open guys fast enough, and at times he is sailing his intended targets. On the flip side, he has yet to throw an interception and has a passer rating of 99.3. Improvement is needed in all aspects on offense but Tennessee could get a huge boost of confidence if the Titans can find a way to go 2-2 without suspended Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan.

2. Titans D will try to clip Falcons' wings

Atlanta has a dearth of talent at the skill positions. Wide receivers Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Mohamed Sanu, along with running back Devonta Freeman and tight end Austin Hooper will present a challenge to Tennessee's defense. How defensive coordinator Dean Pees goes about scheming against these weapons will be fascinating to watch. In theory, when in man-to-man, it would make sense to have Malcolm Butler on Sanu, Logan Ryan on Jones and Adoree' Jackson on Ridley. But that's easier said than done and you still have to account for Hooper in the middle of the field and Freeman on handoffs and coming out of the backfield as a receiver. Expect a mix of man and zone to hopefully keep Matt Ryan guessing and a lot of zone blitzes. The Titans will need to generate a pass rush with four guys to avoid being exposed for big plays down the field.

3. Success in the red zone

This is the thing I'm focusing on. Can the Titans turn Ryan over inside the red zone? Which team will settle for field goals and which will finish off drives by punching it in the end zone? Tennessee is the more physical team. I would expect the Titans to try and pound away on an undersized, speedier Falcons defense. But the Falcons have weapons galore and always play better at home.

Final Analysis

The Titans seem to play their best when they are the underdog. Well, that's the case again this week, as Vegas has made Atlanta a 4-point favorite. Both teams are incredibly difficult to predict and both should enter this week with a sense of desperation. But I'm going with the home team, with the better quarterback and the more proven playmakers. This game will be decided by a field goal, but the Falcons send the Titans to a 1-3 start in 2019.

Prediction: Falcons 26, Titans 23

The Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens meet Sunday in NFL action at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Cleveland Browns look for a statement road win to get back to a .500 record. The Cleveland Browns have lost six of their last nine road games. Baker Mayfield is completing 56.9 percent of his passes for 805 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions. Mayfield has three interceptions in three of his last eight games. Odell Beckham Jr.and Jarvis Landry have combined for 449 receiving yards and one touchdown while Damion Ratley has seven receptions. The Cleveland Browns ground game is averaging 89 yards per contest, and Nick Chubb leads the way with 233 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Cleveland is allowing 22 points and 315.3 yards per game. Joe Schobert leads the Cleveland Browns with 27 tackles, Myles Garrett has six sacks and T.J. Carrie has one interception.

The Baltimore Ravens look for a bounce back victory to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Baltimore Ravens have won their last five home games. Lamar Jackson is completing 63 percent of his passes for 863 yards, seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. Jackson now has 13 regular season touchdown passes for his career. Marquise Brown and Mark Andrews have combined for 517 receiving yards and four touchdowns while Nick Boyle has eight receptions. The Baltimore Ravens ground game is averaging 216.7 yards per contest, and Mark Ingram leads the way with 257 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, Baltimore is allowing 20 points and 350.7 yards per game. Patrick Onwuasor leads the Baltimore Ravens with 18 tackles, Matthew Judon has three sacks and Earl Thomas has one interception.

The Browns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, 6-16-1 ATS in their last 23 vs. AFC North and 7-19-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Ravens are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. AFC North and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Browns are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 meetings and the road team is 13-5-1 ATS in their last 19 meetings. The over is 6-2 in Ravens last 8 vs. AFC. The under is 5-2-1 in Browns last 8 games overall.

The Cleveland Browns have covered five of their last eight games as a road underdog of at least three points. The Baltimore Ravens have failed to cover nine of their last 13 games as a home favorite of at least three points. It's been three games and the Browns look lost offensively despite all of that talent, as the offensive line struggles with pass protection and Mayfield seems to have issues finding open receivers. The Ravens went toe-to-toe with the Kansas City Chiefs on the road, and they remain a physical team on both sides of the ball, a club that will punch an opponent in the mouth if that team isn't ready to match that energy. I have to lay the touchdown here, as the Browns are showing too many signs of being the same team they've always been.

The Bills defense is one of the NFL’s more underrated units. This week, Bill Belichick praised them as one of the league’s best. A big part of their success comes from a talented secondary led by third-year cornerback Tre’Davious White on the outside. On the back end, Buffalo safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer are the sort of versatile, Devin McCourty-type safeties that can pretty much do everything.

So far this year, the Patriots offense has thrived on Tom Brady making quick decisions and getting the ball to open receivers. However, the Bills are a more savvy defense than what the Patriots have faced the past few weeks. Those quick, open windows could be harder to come by.

If White winds up matching up against Edelman in coverage, that could wind up taking away Brady’s most reliable option. This could be a game where the team needs the likes of Phillip Dorsett and James White to step up big time.

- Life After James Develin

If the Buffalo secondary is talented, then the sensible option would be to run the ball -- like they did during last year’s Super Bowl run. However, the Patriots’ rushing attack hasn’t been quite as dynamic as it was late last year -- and it likely won't be.

The Patriots’ most effective running setup last year was Sony Michel running behind fullback James Develin. So far this year, Michel has been slow to get going and Develin is on injured reserve. So that’s completely out the window.

On top of that, the team is working with a new center in Ted Karras and a backup left tackle. They’ll need to show Sunday that they can start to run the ball. Otherwise, opposing defenses might start teeing off on Brady.

When Kansas City comes to the Motor City to take on Detroit it'll be a slightly unexpected matchup of undefeated teams. No one is that surprised that the Chiefs, led by reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes are 3-0. But the Lions have yet to lose a game as well, as the only blemish on their record so far is a 27-27 tie in Week 1 out in Arizona.

Kansas City has been dominant in the early going, outscoring Jacksonville, Oakland, and Baltimore 101-64. Detroit hasn't scored near as many points (67) and has a point differential of just plus-six, but the Lions turned up the defensive intensity when they needed to secure a pair of three-point wins over the Chargers and Eagles, respectively, over the last two weeks.

Detroit may have a more difficult time limiting Mahomes and the Chiefs' well-oiled offensive machine. So can the Lions produce enough points to keep up?

Kansas City at Detroit

Kickoff: Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. ET

TV: FOX

Spread: Chiefs -5

Three Things to Watch

1. Offense, offense, offense

Expect plenty of it when this game kicks off. The Lions are averaging just a little under 24 points per game thanks to multiple contributors. Quarterback Matthew Stafford ranks 10th in passing yards (831), 12th in yards per completion (7.8), fourth in passing touchdowns (6), and his 97.5 passer rating puts him ahead of both Aaron Rodgers and Jimmy Garoppolo. Stafford has a nice supporting cast to thank for those numbers. That cast includes wide receivers Marvin Jones Jr. (15 receptions, 200 yards, TD), Kenny Golladay (14, 176, 2), and Danny Amendola (11, 141, 1), along with rookie tight end T.J. Hockenson (8, 139, 1).

The Lions' rushing attack isn't quite there yet but they've put up some respectable production. Second-year running back Kerryon Johnson leads the team with 126 yards and a touchdown on 48 carries. Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic have pitched in off the bench (combined for 13 carries and 87 yards), and the Lions recently added former New York Giant Paul Perkins (546 career rushing yards, 208 career receiving yards) to the roster after releasing veteran C.J. Anderson (43 yds. on 16 carries before his release). The Lions' offensive line has also done a nice job as Stafford has only been sacked three times this season.

Detroit has done well but the Chiefs are once again among the league's best units, putting up 33.7 points per game (third in NFL) thus far. Patrick Mahomes has picked up where he left off as the reigning MVP leads in passing yards (1,195), yards per attempt (10.5), and touchdown passes. He's on pace to surpass last season's numbers when he threw for more than 5,000 yards and 50 TDs. You could argue he's playing better than he did last season and already is on his way winning back-to-back MVPs.

Even without Tyreek Hill (shoulder) the Chiefs have plenty of downfield options. All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce (284 yds., 16.7 ypr, TD) is still around giving opposing defensive coordinators nightmares while guys like Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson, and Mecole Hardman (combined 36 rec., 684 yds., 8 TDs) have stepped up in Hill's absence.

Not to be forgotten, Kansas City added veteran LeSean McCoy to the backfield prior to the season and while he's dealt with an ankle injury, he's also chipped in 196 total yards and two TDs in the early going. McCoy, Damien Williams (dealing with a knee injury), and Darrel Williams help give some balance to a Chiefs offense that's averaging 487 yards per game (second in the league).

2. Which defense will bend first?

This is where the game will be decided. Both teams are pretty much neck-and-neck when it comes to average yards per game allowed (394.7 for the Lions, 395.7 for the Chiefs), but the Lions are slightly better in terms of points allowed per game (20.3 vs. 21.3). The Chiefs have are a little better in the turnover department (+3 vs. +1), but Detroit has collected a few more sacks (9 vs. 7) in the early going. Neither defense is dominant but they make plays when needed.

The Lions have held their last two opponents to just seven fourth-quarter points, while the Chiefs have recorded 13.5 tackles for a loss in their first three games. Detroit needs to find a way to pressure Mahomes, which is easier said than done and opens up the possibility of giving up some big plays. Kansas City would love to make the Lions one-dimensional on offense, especially if that means forcing Stafford to try and keep pace with Mahomes in a QB duel.

3. By the numbers

While the Lions had an impressive win at home over the Chargers two weeks ago, they're actually just 6-7 against the AFC since 2016. The Chiefs are 7-5 against the NFC during that same stretch. This is only the second game at Ford Field for the Lions this year, but Kansas City is already 2-0 on the road this season. Andy Reid has guided his team to an 11-7 record away from Arrowhead Stadium since 2017, and the Chiefs have won their last five road games. The Lions are just 4-5 at home in a stretch that goes back to last season.

Final Analysis

While I do expect a fair amount of points to be scored, the Chiefs are much more effective on offense and their recent momentum in road games is too hard to ignore. The Chiefs give the Lions their first loss of the season but it won't be easy.

Prediction: Chiefs 31, Lions 28

The Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans meet Sunday in NFL action at NRG Stadium.

The Carolina Panthers look for another road victory to get back to a .500 record. The Carolina Panthers have lost four of their last six road games. Kyle Allen is completing 73.1 percent of his passes for 261 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions. Allen enters this game with 57 career pass attempts under his belt. Greg Olsen and DJ Moore have combined for 438 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Curtis Samuel has 13 receptions. The Carolina Panthers ground game is averaging 113 yards per contest, and Christian McCaffrey leads the way with 318 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Carolina is allowing 23.3 points and 295.3 yards per game. Luke Kuechly leads the Carolina Panthers with 36 tackles, Mario Addison has 3.5 sacks and Donte Jackson has two interceptions.

The Houston Texans look for a third straight win to build on their lead in the AFC South. The Houston Texans have won seven of their last eight home games. Deshaun Watson is completing 65.6 percent of his passes for 778 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. Watson has two or more touchdown passes in seven of his last 12 games. DeAndre Hopkins and Kenny Stills have combined for 382 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Will Fuller V has 11 receptions. The Houston Texans ground game is averaging 115 yards per contest, and Carlos Hyde leads the way with 192 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Houston is allowing 20.7 points and 385.7 yards per game. Johnathan Joseph leads the Houston Texans with 23 tackles, Whitney Mercilus has four sacks and Tashaun Gipson Sr. has two pass deflections.

The Panthers are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win, 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Texans are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win, 3-1-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 14-3 ATS in their last 17 games in Week 4. The under is 4-1 in Texans last 5 games overall. The over is 4-1 in Panthers last 5 games in September.

The Carolina Panthers have split their last eight games ATS as a road underdog. The Houston Texans have split their last eight games ATS as a home favorite. The Carolina Panthers looked good last week against the Arizona Cardinals, but it's the Arizona Cardinals. That game also gave the Texans more film on Allen, so we could see the youngster struggle a bit in this game. The Texans are coming off a big underdog victory on the road against the Chargers, the type of win that could light the spark to the remainder of the season. I'm also not concerned about a letdown, as there's too many veteran and confident players on this Texans roster to get caught in such a trap. These Texans are slowly starting to grow on me. I'll lay the reasonable chalk.

The Oakland Raiders fell below .500 in Week 3 when they were blown out on the road by the Minnesota Vikings. It was the kind of loss Raiders’ fans have become accustomed to seeing, and one that they are likely to experience again in Week 4.

Oakland is a seven-point road underdog against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday afternoon, according to the latest betting line at OddsShark. The over/under is 45.

The Raiders have lost two games in a row after winning their home opener against the still-winless Denver Broncos. The Colts are on a two-game winning streak after losing on the road to the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime in Week 1.

With two losses by 38 total points to winning teams, Oakland is in for another long afternoon against a playoff contender.

The Vikings jumped out to a 21-0 lead over the Raiders, winning 34-14 in a game that probably was even more one-sided than the final score indicated. Derek Carr was sacked four times. The quarterback threw for fewer than 200 yards, one touchdown and one interception before Oakland marched down the field and Carr tossed a garbage-time touchdown in the final two minutes of regulation.

Minnesota racked up 211 yards on 5.6 yards per carry. Indianapolis is sixth in the NFL with 4.9 yards per carry and 449 total yards on the ground.

Since the start of the 2016 season, the Raiders have one road win over a team that went on to make the playoffs. The Colts are certainly looking like a team that’s going to be fighting for a postseason berth until the end of the year, at the very least.

Frank Reich might be one of the best head coaches in the league. Jacoby Brissett doesn’t make many mistakes, having thrown one interception in his last seven starts. The Colts have won seven straight home games.

All of that should make Indianapolis upset-proof against a team that’s as bad as Oakland, even if they are dealing with injuries to key players like T.Y. Hilton and Darius Leonard.

Prediction: Indianapolis over Oakland, 24-13

The Los Angeles Chargers and the Miami Dolphins face off in a week 4 NFL matchup from Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Los Angeles Chargers will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 27-20 loss to the Houston Texans in their last outing. Philip Rivers has thrown for 944 yards, 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 66.4% passing while Austin Ekeler leads L.A. in rushing with 160 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns and Justin Jackson has 142 rushing yards. Keenan Allen leads the Chargers in receiving with 29 catches for 404 yards and 3 touchdowns while Ekeler has 19 grabs on 20 targets for 208 yards and 2 touchdowns and Mike Williams has 157 receiving yards this season. Thomas Davis leads the Chargers with 33 total tackles, including 19 solo tackles while Joey Bosa has 1.5 sacks this season. As a team, Los Angeles is averaging 408.3 yards of total offense and 20 points per game while allowing 363.7 yards of total defense and 21.3 points per game against this season.

The Miami Dolphins will look to pick up their first win of what’s been a horrendous season so far, falling to 0-3 with a 31-6 loss to Dallas last time out. Josh Rosen threw for 200 yards on 18 of 39 passing while Kenyan Drake leads the Dolphins on the ground with 69 rushing yards. Preston Williams leads the Dolphins with 11 catches and 155 receiving yards and a touchdown while DeVante Parker has 131 receiving yards this season. Jerome Baker leads Miami’s defense with 23 total tackles while Eric Rowe has 17 total tackles including 13 solo tackles. As a team, Miami is averaging 222.3 yards of total offense and 5.3 points per game while allowing 499.3 yards of total defense and 44.3 points per game against this season.

Los Angeles is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games while the under is 19-8 in their last 27 games against the AFC. Miami is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games following a loss. Los Angeles is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in Miami.

The Chargers should rightfully be favored here as they’re the better team and Miami is in shambles right now. However, the Dolphins looked competitive in the first half against Dallas before things fell apart and Miami is showing signs of life. The Chargers are always capable of throwing in a clunker and while I’m not sure the Dolphins win this game outright, I think that this is a case of too many points so I’ll take Miami and the points in this one.

The Redskins will be facing their first 0-4 start since 2001 when they come to MetLife Stadium on Sunday to face the Giants (1-2), who breathed life into their season with a 32-31 victory over the Buccaneers in Tampa.

To get the spark, the Giants benched two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback Eli Manning. Daniel Jones, the sixth pick overall in the draft, responded by throwing for two touchdowns and running for two more in rallying them from an 18-point deficit.

The Giants were lucky, too. The Bucs missed a 34-yard field goal on the final play.

Which means this probably should be a game between two winless teams.

The slow start has put the future of Redskins coach Jay Gruden in jeopardy. Giants coach Pat Shurmur is a little better off after Jones justified his decision to bench Manning.

Since 2013, the Giants and Redskins have made the playoffs once each. Washington went in 2015, and the Giants the following year.

Either Dallas or Philadelphia has won the NFC East five of six years.

Veteran linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said the Redskins need to get going after losses to the Eagles, Cowboys and Bears.

''We've still got 13 games left to play,'' Kerrigan said. ''You didn't sign up to play three. You signed up to play 16. Anything can happen over these next 13, 14 weeks and we've got to make it happen in our favor.''

The Giants were not very competitive against either Dallas or Buffalo, and they needed their biggest rally since 1970 to win last Sunday.

''It really just makes us hungrier,'' tight end Evan Engram said of the victory. ''Like I said, that feeling is really addicting, and it adds motivation to us, so I think it makes us hungrier. We've been in positions where - last year we won Game 3 after going 0-2, so ... it's important not to put too much into that. It's a new week, a new opponent, and it's just going to make us hungrier and motivate us more to go out there and do everything we can to repeat that.''

Five things to watch in this 175th meetings between the longtime rivals:

COLLINS RETURNS

Redskins teammates don't expect safety Landon Collins to play differently in his first game against his former teammates, and neither do the Giants.

''I think the reason why we like Landon is because he plays highly motivated every Sunday,'' Gruden said. ''We expect Landon to play hard like he does every game and if he has some added incentive, then great.''

Collins spent four seasons with New York and was an All-Pro in 2016.

''That's my brother, we also share the same agency, so I have known the guy for a while,'' Giants receiver Sterling Shepard said. ''I played against him in college. Like I said, that's my brother at the end of the day. When we step on the field, he knows what time it is.''

AND REPLACING SAQUON ...

Third-year running back Wayne Gallman will start with 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Saquon Barkley sidelined indefinitely with an ankle sprain. Gallman had five carries for 13 yards against the Bucs and did not catch a pass.

Eli Penny is the only other running back on the roster. Shurmur may go for the quick fix and sign Jon Hilliman, formerly of Rutgers, off the practice squad for depth.

O-LINE WOES

As if the Redskins' running game hasn't been bad enough, they could be missing up to two starting offensive linemen.

The status of center Chase Roullier (knee) and right guard Brandon Scherff (ankle) are iffy. Veteran Tony Bergstrom is the top backup. Rookies Ross Pierschbacher or Wes Martin are next on the depth chart.

The Green Bay Packers are 14-0-1 straight up in their last 15 September home games and 9-2 against the spread in their last 11 September home games. The Packers look to keep this trend of success alive and to remain undefeated with a win against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night.

Green Bay is a 4.5-point home favorite on the NFL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The line has moved a full three points from its opener of Green Bay -1.5.

The Matt LaFleur era is off to a 3-0 SU and ATS start in Green Bay, but it has been the defense leading the way. Aaron Rodgers has only passed for 647 yards and four touchdowns through the team’s first three games, but the Packers defense is second only to the Patriots in points allowed this season with 11.7 per game. The offense will try to get something going on Thursday night against a porous Philadelphia defense that is allowing 293.7 passing yards and 26 points per game.

In their last six games against the Eagles, the Packers are 5-1 SU and ATS per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Philadelphia has been ravaged by injuries on both sides of the ball early in 2019, which has helped contribute to the team’s disappointing 1-2 SU and 0-3 ATS start. Another big issue has been slow starts; the Eagles have trailed at the half in all three of their first three games by an average of nine points per game.

The Eagles will need to get off to a better start on the road on Thursday night if they hope to break their 0-6 ATS slump in the month of September.

Eagles at Packers Betting Total
Thursday night’s total is set at 45 points. The UNDER is 7-1 in the last eight games between Philadelphia and Green Bay.

This isn’t quite a must-win situation for the Eagles, but falling to 1-3 on the season would be far from optimal for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations. Meanwhile in Green Bay, the Packers are still trying to get things right on offense before the schedule moves into October. Thursday night games aren’t always compelling, but this one has some interesting storylines to follow.

The Week 3 edition of "Monday Night Football" features two teams in need of momentum. The Washington Redskins (0-2) are in most need of a win as they host the Chicago Bears (1-1), who are looking to prove that last week's thrilling victory against the Denver Broncos was no accident. Both teams have their share of both issues and qualities, and they hope to become more complete teams on Monday night. They're also in the midst of some tough stretches.

After hosting the Bears, Washington hits the road for two of their next three games. They have a crucial NFC East matchup with the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium next week, then return home to face the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, followed by a trip to South Florida to take on the Miami Dolphins. New England is a handful for any team, while New York and Miami are hungry teams with nothing to lose at the moment.

The Bears also have a tough slate ahead of them. After departing our nation's capital the Bears will return home to host the Minnesota Vikings. Then, they make the long trek across the Atlantic Ocean to play the Oakland Raiders in London in Week 5. After a bye, Chicago will be back at Soldier Field to face New Orleans. The Bears are certainly familiar with the Vikings, who appear to have a rejuvenated running game to go with their stingy defense. The Raiders are a bit of a wild card but dealing with the travel and other logistics associated with the London games is not easy. And while the Saints aren't the same team without Drew Brees, they still have more than enough talent on both sides of the ball to give Chicago trouble.

But first things first for both teams and that's Monday night's game.

Chicago at Washington

Kickoff: Monday, Sept. 23 at 8:15 p.m. ET

TV: ESPN

Spread: Bears -3.5

Three Things to Watch

1. Offense will be the focus

This holds true but for different reasons. The Bears have scored just 19 points thus far, with 12 of those coming in the form of four field goals from kicker Eddy Pineiro. The Bears have 547 total yards of offense in their first two games (only one touchdown), but 348 of those have come courtesy of the arm of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. The Bears are barely averaging four yards per rushing attempt, while Trubisky is only averaging five yards per completion. The Bears ran the ball 29 times for 153 yards and a touchdown (with David Montgomery accounting for 18 carries, 62 yards, and said TD) against Denver last week, and head coach Matt Nagy should make the run the focus of the game plan, which should open up the passing game.

For Washington it's the exact opposite; their passing game is firing on all cylinders, while the rushing attack is almost non-existent. Case Keenum (not Dwayne Haskins yet) is completing 69 percent of his passes for 601 yards, five touchdowns, and is averaging 7.4 yards per attempt. The biggest beneficiaries of his accuracy have been wide receiver Terry McLaurin (10 catches, 187 yds., 2 TDs), running back Chris Thompson (12 rec., 116 yds.), and tight end Vernon Davis (7, 88, 1). Jay Gruden's team will take to the air early and often against the Bears.

The Redskins will definitely have to rely on their air attack as the ground game has struggled to get out of the gate. As a team, Washington only has 75 yards on 30 carries (with one score). Derrius Guice (10 carries, 18 yards) was the starter in Week 1 but suffered a knee injury against Philadelphia. He had surgery to repair a torn meniscus and was placed on injured reserve, so he's out for at least eight weeks. Adrian Peterson was inactive for the opener against the Eagles but reclaimed the starting job after the Guice injury. He managed just 25 yards on 10 carries last week against Dallas but did score a touchdown.

Washington needs to find balance with its offense while Chicago needs to get its own attack moving. We could witness a chess match between Gruden and Nagy.

2. Don't forget about the defense

Both teams need improvement on this side of the ball. The Bears have done a good job in limiting the damage on the scoreboard (24 points allowed) but they have given up 632 yards in the first two games. Chicago couldn't prevent Denver from running a successful two-minute drill last week when the Broncos took the lead with just 31 seconds left following a 12-play, 67-yard TD drive and the subsequent two-point conversion. Fortunately, there was still enough time for Trubisky to move the ball downfield far enough to set up Pineiro's game-winning, 53-yard field goal on the last play of the game.

Chuck Pagano's defense hopes to avoid a similar situation Monday night. Washington's defense also has had its struggles in the early going. The Redskins have surrendered 63 points and 918 yards, 336 of those on the ground. Both defenses, however, have combined to register nine sacks, 23 tackles for a loss, 17 pass deflections, and two takeaways. Given each team's offensive issues, the opportunity is there for one defense to emerge as the difference-maker.

3. Head-to-head

The Bears last defeated Washington back in 2003. Since that game, the Redskins have won the past seven meetings, outscoring Chicago 173-130 in the process. The most recent matchup took place during Week 16 of the 2016 season. Washington won that game, which was played in Chicago on Christmas Eve, 41-21 behind three total touchdowns from Kirk Cousins, who is now a Viking. Overall the series (including playoff games) stands at 26-23-1 in favor of the Redskins. The Bears' last win at FedEx Field came back in 2001, a 20-15 victory en route to winning the NFC Central (now NFC North) title.

Final Analysis

The Bears may be on a losing streak in this series but they've upgraded their talent significantly since that 2016 loss. Under Matt Nagy, the Bears are 6-3 in road games and have won their last three games away from Soldier Field. Washington, on the other hand, has lost its last five home games by a combined score of 156-72. This will be a close and hard-hitting game, but the Bears will do just enough to break their losing streak to the Redskins.

Prediction: Bears 14, Redskins 13

The Carolina Panthers will be without their long-time leader when they travel to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals.

Cam Newton has been dealing with a foot injury, which he reaggravated in Carolina's 20-14 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. He was officially ruled out Friday afternoon, which is no surprise considering he was unable to practice and was spotted in a walking boot this week.

Now at 0-2 after losses to the Los Angeles Rams and Buccaneers, the Panthers are essentially in a must-win situation in Week 3.

As for the Cardinals, they lost to the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. In Week 1, the Cardinals tied the Detroit Lions 27-27. So Arizona will be looking to get its first victory of the season in its second home game.

Carolina holds a 9-4 regular-season advantage in the all-time series. However, the Cardinals have won two of the last three meetings.

Carolina at Arizona

Kickoff: Sunday, Sept. 22 at 4:05 p.m ET
TV: FOX
Spread: Arizona -2.5

Three Things to Watch

1. Kyle Allen

With Cam Newton sidelined, Allen will get the start against the Cardinals. It will be the second career start for the second-year quarterback. His first came in Week 17 last season when he helped the Panthers beat New Orleans 33-14 on the road. Allen threw for 228 yards and two touchdowns against the Saints, who had already wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs and rested the majority of their starters for that game. Even with limited game experience, Rivera is more than confident that Allen can lead the Panthers to victory.

“I think Kyle is more than ready,” Rivera said Tuesday after practice. “I think Kyle did some really good things last year, showed us what he is capable of. He had a good preseason. Had a whole bunch of ups — a few downs — but for the most part, he knows the offense, and he knows it very well. So we feel confident about it, we really do. We feel very comfortable. If you go back to what he did briefly in the Atlanta game and what he did in the New Orleans game [in 2018].”

With Allen starting, expect the Panthers to rely on Christian McCaffrey and the running game, especially considering how shaky their offensive line has been during the first two weeks of the season.

2. Kyler Murray

Although only a rookie, Murray has been solid in his first two games as an NFL starter. During that span, he has thrown for 657 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Probably more surprising, Murray has just 17 yards rushing on the season.

At Oklahoma last season, Murray rushed for 1,001 yards and 12 touchdowns. It seems like Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury's gameplan is to throw the ball exclusively, but the team's offense would greatly benefit from having Murray use his legs to make plays.

This weekend, against a Panthers defense that has given up some plays on the ground, expect Kingsbury to use Murray more in that facet of the game. That should not only open up the Cardinals passing game but also make things easier on running back David Johnson.

3. Panthers defense

Unlike the Rams or the Buccaneers, the Cardinals feature an Air Raid offense. This isn't an offensive style that defenses see every week. To counteract the Cardinals offense, the Panthers have to get pressure on Murray in the backfield.

So far this season, the Panthers have just four sacks, 19th in the league. Carolina will need rookie Brian Burns to be a significant factor off the end.

Also, Gerald McCoy, who hasn't done a lot the first two weeks, will need to revert to his Pro Bowl form.

If Carolina can generate pressure on Murray, there's a chance the rookie quarterback could turn the ball over a time or two.

Final Analysis

Carolina will really need a massive game from Christian McCaffrey with Cam Newton out. In Week 1, McCaffrey had 209 all-purpose yards against the Rams. Expect the Panthers to use him similarly against the Cardinals.

However, the game will come down to whether or not Kyle Allen can make plays when the team needs him to. That is where the Cardinals, especially on the road, might have the advantage. Sure, Allen played well in Week 17 against the Saints last season, but New Orleans had nothing to play for and rested many starters.

Expect the Cardinals to get Kyler Murray going through the air and rushing the ball this week. David Johnson should also play a role offensively in a close game and a narrow win for Arizona.

Prediction: Cardinals 24, Panthers 17
