The Indianapolis Colts will be holding their starers out of the preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, but there are still competitions taking place all over the field.

With the starters not expected to see any time on the field, this will give some of the depth players a bigger opportunity to showcase their talent—either for the Colts or for another team if they get waived.

Neither Andrew Luck or Jacoby Brissett is expected to play on Saturday. This means the game will be split between Chad Kelly and Phillip Walker, both of which are fighting for the QB3 spot on the depth chart.

Kelly has been the better quarterback through two preseason games, but Walker has been the one to come in after Brissett. Though this position won’t have a massive impact on the team, it is still important to see who wins the battle.

With Brissett’s contract ending after the 2019 season, the winner of this competition could very well be the backup in 2020.

It’ll be the second-year gunslinger facing off against the future Hall of Famer – at least for a series or two – when the New York Jets entertain the New Orleans Saints on Saturday night in Week 3 of the pre-season. Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will look to build some rapport with his receiving corps in what should be his most significant audition of the pre-season, while Saints counterpart Drew Brees will see what will likely be his only action prior to Week 1 kickoff.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Jets opened as ever-so-slight one-point underdogs, but the line has moved all the way to +3 – due in no small part to the confirmation that Jets running back Le’Veon Bell won’t see the field until the regular season. The Saints have covered three of their previous four pre-season road games following a five-game losing streak, while the Jets enter Saturday night’s game having successfully covered six of their last eight exhibition home contests.

This game has one of the higher totals of the week at 42.5, and recent pre-season trends on both sides would suggest that the under will be a popular option. The Jets have gone below the number in seven consecutive home games in the preseason, limiting opponents to just 12.4 points per game over that stretch. The Saints have converted the under in 10 of their last 13 preseason outings, with nine of those coming in below 40 total points.

New Orleans Saints
How many snaps will Brees play? Saints head coach Sean Payton wouldn’t tip his hand when speaking with reporters earlier this week, but it’s worth noting that Brees has averaged 22 snaps in Week 3 of the previous two pre-seasons. We’d guess that the Saints won’t leave Brees out on the field too long, especially considering the Jets racked up five sacks and a ridiculous 14 quarterback hits in their Week 2 game vs. the Atlanta Falcons.

New York Jets
It might bother Jets fans to see the team’s prized off-season acquisition not play a pre-season snap. But head coach Adam Gase says that Bell, who missed the 2018 season in a contract dispute with Pittsburgh, has shown enough in practice that the team doesn’t think he needs any pre-season work. His absence also allows New York to better evaluate its backups, with Ty Montgomery, Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire all expected to see action Saturday.

The Kansas City Chiefs (1-1) will play host at Arrowhead Stadium to the San Francisco 49ers (2-0) Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET in NFL Preseason Week 3 action. We should see the most out of both starting units that we’ve seen this preseason.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has seen action in both preseason games, going 6-for-9 while throwing for 77 yards in brief appearances. Look for more than just a cameo.
49ers faithful are hoping last week was a shake-the-rust-off game for QB Jimmy Garoppolo, who hit just 1 of 6 passes for no yards and tossed an interception. That’s a QB raking of 0.0 for those keeping track at home. Garoppolo, who only played three games last year, has a total of 10 starts under his belt entering his seventh season.
Keep an eye on how the Chiefs use RBs Darwin Thompson, a rookie, and veteran Carlos Hyde. Presumed starter Damien Williams (hamstring) has missed time and hasn’t played in the preseason, but returned to practice this week. Thompson might have played himself into the top backup role thus far….

The Chiefs have scored 45 points in their two preseason games, but the results were drastically different. They dropped 38 points on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, winning 38-17. In Week 2, versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Chiefs lost 17-7.
The 49ers beat the Dallas Cowboys 17-9 during Week 1 of preseason play and the Denver Broncos 24-15 during Week 2.

The Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Rams will match up in NFL preseason Week 3 action on Saturday.

Denver is coming out of a 2018 campaign that saw them finish 6-10 and in third place in the AFC West, missing the playoffs. The Broncos were plagued by poor offensive performances the entire season and couldn’t find their footing on that side of the ball.

The Broncos have made three preseason appearances thus far, starting out with a 14-10 win over the Falcons in the Hall of Fame Game and a 22-14 loss to the Seahawks the following week. Denver then played the 49ers on Monday, falling 24-15.

Over on the Rams’ side, they’re coming off a successful regular-season campaign at 13-3 last year. Los Angeles made it all the way to the Super Bowl, where they would fall by 10 to the New England Patriots.

In preseason action so far this year, the Rams are 0-2. LA kicked things off with a 14-3 loss to the Raiders, then fell again to the Cowboys 14-10 last Saturday with Blake Bortles tossing the team’s first TD of the year.

The Broncos are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four Saturday games. Denver is also 0-4 ATS in their last four overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four on grass.

Meanwhile, the Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight home games. LA is 1-5 ATS in their last six Saturday games and the over is 5-1 in their last six home games.

With the short turnaround this week, we’ll probably see Denver hold back a little tighter in this one, but some of the key guys will get ample playing time. The Broncos really need to put some points on the board here to gain momentum heading into the regular season.

The Rams will probably continue with the vanilla setup here as well. That said, LA’s “toned down” offense is still better than a lot of teams in the league. I like the Rams to jump out to a lead early here and cruise to a cover if the line isn't too bad.

A resting of one key player is impacting the spread in the Seahawks-Chargers contest this weekend. Philip Rivers won’t suit up for the Chargers and bettors are backing Seattle to make short work of the Bolts with their crew of backup QBs.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Seahawks went from 2-point underdogs to 3-point favourites in the span of a few days. Seattle is coming off a 25-19 setback to the Minnesota Vikings last week. Quarterback Russell Wilson saw some action in that game and completed six of his nine pass attempts for 82 yards.

Pete Carroll’s club took down the Broncos 22-14 in the week prior. The Seahawks won and covered seven out of eight pre-season games from 2016 to 2017. But the squad is 1-5 straight up in its last six August matchups.

Los Angeles lost 19-17 to New Orleans last week and pushed as a 2-point dog. The Bolts lost and failed to cover in their Week 1 pre-season contest against the Arizona Cardinals. LA is 4-12 SU in its last 16 games in August.

Bettors are expecting big things from the Chargers this season. The team’s season win total is set at 9.5 (over -160) and Sports Interaction lists Los Angeles at +1400 to win the Super Bowl.

Seattle’s win total rests at 8.5 with more money coming in on the over. The Seahawks are the second favourites behind the Rams to win the NFC West at +301.

Seattle Seahawks
Head coach Pete Carroll isn’t saying exactly how much his starters will play on Saturday. He told reporters that all his players will see time, and that there will be plenty of action for backup quarterback Geno Smith.

Expect Russell Wilson to start with Smith coming on sometime during the second quarter to relieve the Pro Bowl QB. Former Ohio State standout JT Barrett will serve as the third-string quarterback.

Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers are normally limit Rivers’ exposure in the pre-season, but it did come as a surprise that the 37-year-old was ruled out. Rivers is coming off one of his finest seasons as a pro. He finished the 2018 campaign with 32 TD passes against 12 interceptions.

Former Bills starter Tyrod Taylor should see the majority of action at quarterback for the Bolts. Cardelle Jones will back him up, and Easton Stick will get the mop-up duty in the fourth quarter.

Rookie first-overall pick quarterback Kyler Murray looked great in his first pre-season game and awful in the second. After stumbling against the Oakland Raiders last week, can he get back on track on Saturday to renew optimism? A second consecutive struggle would be cause for concern.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Shocked to see a team laying a touchdown in the pre-season? The oddsmakers are simply adjusting to Mike Zimmer, who has one of the best exhibition records in the NFL. The Vikings are 19-4 in pre-season games under him. His teams are also a perfect 5-0 in Week 3.

On the other sideline, there has been a lot of talk about whether Kliff Kingsbury is a head coach that can turn things around in Arizona this offseason. Kingsbury has split his first two exhibition games as a first-time NFL head coach. He is expected to give his starters more playing time in Week 3.

Arizona Cardinals
Murray will have his work cut out for him against a Minnesota defense that features several starters in the lineup this week. Murray, who showed some positive signs in his debut against the Chargers, looked very flustered at times in last week’s loss to Oakland. Kingsbury needs to get a good look at his rookie quarterback this week so we expect Murray to play a significant number of snaps in his third exhibition game.

Meanwhile, those hoping that running back David Johnson can get back to the level he played at in 2016 should probably temper expectations. Kingsbury’s offense relies heavily on moving the football through the air, which should limit Johnson’s production. With a new system in place and a young passer under center, the Cardinals will certainly have their share of growing pains this season.

Minnesota Vikings
Zimmer has done his best to maximize his opportunities to test his players in pre-season games since taking over as the head coach in Minnesota. He has shown that again this year with consecutive exhibition game wins. Kirk Cousins, Sean Mannion and Kyle Sloter certainly looked good in Sunday’s 25-19 win over the Seattle Seahawks. That quarterback trio combined to go 28-of-35 for 272 yards and a pair of touchdowns. That comes on the heels of a 34-point outburst in Week 1 where the team piled up 460 yards of offense and four touchdowns.

The Vikings defense also looked good versus Seattle. Minnesota held the Seahawks to just 145 yards on 12-of-27 passing with an interception. With the starters set to see extended snaps on Saturday, the Vikings defense could make life miserable for Murray and the Cardinals.

The Cleveland Browns (2-0 in the preseason) will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-1) Friday in the all-important Week 3 of the exhibition slate, when most teams’ starters will get a significant snap count if healthy. Kickoff lines up for 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Buccaneers have a tightly contested split on their 6.5-win prognosis, with the over at -110 and the under at -120.
Cleveland has won its first two preseason contests, 30-10 over Washington and, most recently, 21-18 over the Colts. QB Baker Mayfield woke up feeling dangerous in the opener, going 5-for-6 for 77 yards and a score but he didn’t log a pass in Week 2. Backup leader Garrett Gilbert has thrown for at least 135 passing yards in each warm-up contest and found the end zone twice last weekend.

The Buccaneers fell 30-28 to the Steelers in practice Week 1 but rebounded for a 16-14 victory over the Dolphins in Week 2. QB Jameis Winston only played the opening series in each warm-up contest but has more palpable upside this year playing in Tampa Bay’s new Bruce Arians offense.
Tampa Bay’s biggest standout has been first-season reserve RB Dare Ogunbowale, who planted two scores in the first outing and collected 88 scrimmage yards last week. He’s trying to knock on the door behind Jones and presumed two-down option Peyton Barber.
Despite a quiet Week 2, WR Rashard Higgins went 5-98-1 for Cleveland in Week 1. The fourth-year snare averaged a useful 14.7 yards per catch with the Dawg Pound last season.

Cleveland Browns at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Key Injuries
Starters typically play the most exhibition reps in Week 3, but newly acquired Cleveland WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) is unlikely to suit up. Browns CB Denzel Ward (undisclosed) is expected to give it a go, though keep an eye on TE David Njoku (knee), who’s day-to-day after missing Week 2.
The Buccaneers aren’t without their share of major health issues, though. Mike Evans (quadriceps/groin) joins OBJ as a star wideout doubtful to play. RB Ronald Jones II has swelling in his left knee after playing through an apparently hyperextended knee last week.

The value lies with Bucs +135, but the logic says the Browns -165. Outside of perhaps Tampa Bay’s backfield distribution, these two squads don’t have many offensive position battles to determine and probably will just feed reps to the starters — those who aren’t hobbled, at least — for one half, max. Emerging Browns RB Nick Chubb didn’t play in Week 2 but should get some run here.
