The Minnesota Vikings and the Buffalo Bills square off to close out their preseason schedules in week 4 NFL preseason action from New Era Field on Thursday.

The Minnesota Vikings will look to finish the preseason with a perfect record after improving to 3-0 on the preseason after a 20-9 win over Arizona last time out. Kyle Sloter has thrown for 102 yards and a touchdown on 6 of 7 passing while Kirk Cousins went just 3 of 13 for 35 yards. Dalvin Cook led Minnesota with 88 rushing yards, including an 85-yard rushing TD. Mike Boone added 41 rushing yards and a TD of his own while De’Angelo Henderson had 38 rushing yards. Olabisi Johnson led the Vikings’ receiving group with 3 grabs for 52 yards while Khari Blasingame had a touchdown grab for Minnesota. Defensively, Devante Downs had a sack while Anthony Barr led the Vikings defense with 5 tackles in the victory.

The Buffalo Bills will also be looking to finish the preseason unbeaten after a 24-20 win over Detroit in their last outing. Matt Barkley threw for 142 yards and a touchdown on 12 of 14 passing while Josh Allen recorded 49 passing yards on 3 of 8 passing. Frank Gore led the Bills on the ground with 57 rushing yards while LeSean McCoy had 37 rushing yards. Devin Singletary and Isaiah McKenzie each had a rushing score while Duke Williams added a receiving TD for the Bills. T.J. Yeldon led the Bills with 3 grabs for 51 receiving yards while Zay Jones had 3 grabs of his own for 46 yards. Defensively, Shaq Lawson and Deon Lacey each had a sack while Jaquan Johnson forced a fumble that he also recovered and Tremaine Edwards led the Bills with 5 tackles.

Minnesota is 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 games on turf and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games while the under is 5-1 in their lat 6 games overall. Buffalo is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games while the over is 21-8 in their last 29 home games.

I think Buffalo being favored at home in the preseason makes sense, but this is the week where the starters will probably see the most playing time and I just think that Minnesota has more overall depth than the Bills do. The Vikings have also played the tougher preseason slate up to this point in my opinion, and getting points with the better team even if they’re slightly better is never a bad bet and is a good way to increase your bankroll. I’ll take the points with Minnesota in a game I see the Vikings winning outright to finish the preseason unbeaten.

Pittsburgh and Carolina close out their pre-season schedule on Thursday night against one another from Charlotte and you won’t see any key players take the field. The Steelers look to cap an unbeaten exhibition slate.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
We are previewing every Week 4 pre-season game here at Sports Interaction even though they are almost utterly meaningless because it’s still football and people will bet on them. There’s always an edge to be found somewhere.

These teams have played one another in the pre-season every year since 2003 and always in the last week. Pittsburgh has won the past two, covering both. The Steelers prevailed 39-24 last year at home. Joshua Dobbs threw for 151 yards and a touchdown while rushing for a score, and Mason Rudolph threw for two scores. More on them below. Kyle Allen threw for 250 yards and a score for Carolina (more on him below).

Carolina also visited Pittsburgh on a Thursday night in Week 10 last year and it changed the Panthers’ season. They were 6-2 and on a three-game winning streak, but the Cats were destroyed 52-21 and Cam Newton was beaten to a pulp. His shoulder wouldn’t be right the rest of the way and neither would Carolina as it wouldn’t win again until a nothing-to-play-for Week 17 matchup in New Orleans. Ben Roethlisberger threw for five touchdowns in that one. One to some guy named Antonio Brown.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Zero chance that Mike Tomlin plays anyone of note here; he wouldn’t have anyways but especially because Pittsburgh is on a short week after winning 18-6 at Tennessee on Sunday night to improve to 3-0 this pre-season. Short weeks are when guys are more at risk of being hurt. The only drama on this roster is between Dobbs and Rudolph to be Big Ben’s backup. Rudolph reportedly is in the lead and was 6-for-9 for 75 yards and a 41-yard touchdown pass on Sunday. He did throw a pick. Dobbs took over in the third quarter and was 4-for-9 for 79 yards and an interception. JuJu Smith-Schuster caught four passes for 37 yards and a score. He’s in line for a potentially huge year with Brown gone.

Carolina Panthers
Want a reason why more and more coaches are choosing to not play their starting quarterbacks at all in the pre-season and why the NFL is going to shorten it eventually? Newton made his pre-season debut last Thursday in a 10-3 loss in New England and left with a foot injury. It appears the team avoided disaster with the former NFL MVP and it’s thought Newton will be ready for the regular season. It’s being called a mild left foot sprain. Starting to wonder if Newton is breaking down as he also had right shoulder surgery in January, his second such surgery on that shoulder in the past three years. Thus, there’s NO chance Ron Rivera risks anyone of note here (in addition, rookie offensive tackle Greg Little left with a concussion). Might not even play presumed No. 2 QB Allen to be safe. Most of the snaps should go to third-round rookie Will Grier.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Keep in mind that few if any starters on any of the NFL’s 32 teams will play in Week 4 of the pre-season. This week is all about those guys on the fringes of the roster trying to make one last splash.

Indianapolis is 0-3 this pre-season and 3-4 all-time in exhibition games under second-year head coach Frank Reich. Just one team has won the Super Bowl after a winless pre-season (1982 Redskins). The Colts were a legitimate threat to win this season’s Super Bowl … until star quarterback Andrew Luck shocked the football world with his retirement over the weekend. Needless to say, the Colts’ futures odds changed dramatically in the wake of that. They now have a win total of just 6.5 at Sports Interaction. The Colts were favourites to win the AFC South but are now +500 long shots.

This is the first year as a coach for the Bengals’ Zac Taylor, the league’s second-youngest head coach at 36.  Cincinnati is 1-2 this pre-season. These teams play every year now in the pre-season and always in the finale. The Colts have won the past three. It was 27-26 in Cincinnati last year. Neither Luck nor Bengals starting QB Andy Dalton played. Indianapolis also hosted Cincinnati in Week 1 of the regular season and lost 34-23. The Bengals were down 23-10 in the third quarter. That was Luck’s first game back after missing all of 2017 due to shoulder surgery.

Indianapolis Colts
The Colts’ new starting quarterback is Jacoby Brissett, who started the entire 2017 campaign with Luck sidelined. Brissett was pretty solid, completing 58.5 percent of his passes for 3,098 yards, 13 touchdowns and seven picks. The Colts have a lot more talent around him now, especially on the offensive line, than they did then. Brissett probably would have played Thursday if healthy (he didn’t in Week 3 simply for rest) but now surely won’t. The Colts only have inexperienced Phillip Walker and Chad Kelly left on the roster. Kelly has looked much better and could win the backup job, although it’s likely the team adds a veteran either through trade or free agency.

Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals haven’t had star receiver AJ Green at all this pre-season due to ankle surgery and he isn’t expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Damion Willis will start in Green’s place in the early games that count. Trey Hopkins has been named the starting centre in a moderate surprise over former first-round pick Billy Price. Surely won’t see Dalton here, with Jeff Driskel and rookie Ryan Finley battling for the backup job. Finley reportedly in in the lead there. Top running back Joe Mixon has played in just one of the three pre-season games and isn’t expected to go Thursday.

It hasn’t been a preseason to write home about for both the Falcons and Jaguars. Both teams are winless entering this contest, combining for seven losses in seven games (also 0-7 against the spread). But, it’s only the preseason, and both teams are expected to compete for post season spots once the season gets underway.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Falcons may be 0-4 this preseason, but they have lost by a combined 35 points for an average of just under nine points per game.

The Jaguars are a different story, having only scored a combined 17 points in three games, including getting shutout in one of them.

Head to head the Falcons are 4-0 ATS in their last four meetings with the Jaguars. However, they are also 1-4 ATS in their last five games on the road.

The under is 5-1 in the last six games these two teams have played in, but also consider this; these six games have taken place over the last 19 years – so not a good stat to put much stock into.

Interesting note, the Falcons will look to avoid a third consecutive winless preseason as they wrap up their exhibition schedule.

Atlanta Falcons
You have to go back to September 1, 2016 to find the last time the Falcons won a preseason game – that’s some kind of streak. Ironically, that win was against Jacksonville. The Falcons preseason losing streak now stands at 12 games.

The team’s latest battle appears to be at the place-kicking position. Giorgio Tavecchio is 4-for-8 this preseason and after missing a 39-yard attempt against Washington, Head Coach Dan Quinn said he would continue to evaluate the position. Enter former All-Pro Kicker Blair Walsh, who was signed to a contract earlier this week. Walsh has played for the Vikings and Seahawks and also spent time in Georgia during his college yards.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Free agent Quarterback Nick Foles saw his first preseason action as a member of the Jaguars last week in a loss to the Dolphins. Foles was 6-of-10 for 48 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Signs point to Foles sitting out this contest with the Falcons.

Most of the battles have been completed for the Jaguars entering this game. The major story in camp has been the play of first-round pick Josh Allen. Look for Allen to be a major factor in a defence that is already ranked in the top five by most accounts.

Ladies and gentlemen, the regular season is almost here. A week from now, we’ll be discussing the Eagles week one contest against the Redskins. Unfortunately, there is still one more week of preseason to get through.

The birds will travel two hours north to East Rutherford to take on the New York Jets on Thursday night. The final week of the preseason is typically the game that decides the fate of the guys at the bottom of the depth chart and who will make the final 53-man roster.

All 32 NFL teams must have their final rosters set by Saturday at 4 p.m. So, let’s take a look at some roster competitions that should yield a winner after Thursday night.

Who Will Get the Final Defensive End Spots?

Last season, the Eagles kept five defensive ends on their final roster, and I expect them to do the same this season. There are only three of those five spots that I think are secured: Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett and Vinny Curry. I expect there to be three guys competing for the final two spots.

If preseason performances mean anything, then Daeshon Hall should be feeling pretty good about his chances. There could be a serious debate made that Hall has had the best preseason performance of any Eagle defensive player. Hall leads the team in sacks (three) as well as forced fumbles (two) this preseason.

If Hall doesn’t make this team, then he must have had a dramatically different performance on the practice field. The only way Hall doesn’t make this team is if he has a disastrous final preseason game.

Where we’ve seen Miller make the most strides has been rushing the passer. Miller was not known as much for his pass rush coming out of Penn State. Yet, he is second only to Hall in sacks for the Eagles this preseason, with two. If he has a decent game Thursday, he should lock up a roster spot.

As for 2018 fourth-round pick Josh Sweat, he has done next to nothing this preseason. After contributing two tackles in week one, Sweat has yet to appear on the stat sheet in weeks two or three. While Sweat did appear on the Eagles unofficial injury report after week two, he still played the following week, leading me to believe the injury was insignificant.

Who Makes the Cut at Wide Receiver?

In 2018, the Eagles held onto six receivers on their final roster. I think that five of those six spots are locked up: Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, Nelson Agholor, JJ Arcega-Whiteside and Mack Hollins.

Arcega-Whiteside had a heck of a performance last week, topping 100 yards with a touchdown, so he’s shown more than enough. I believe that Hollins provides too much value on special teams for the Eagles to cut him.

The final spot should come down to Greg Ward, Marken Michel and Carlton Agudosi. Agudosi has dropped a few passes and has at times looked lost on offense. While he does have good size at 6’6”, the Eagles have not seen nearly enough from him to keep him on the roster.

Michel had a 75-yard touchdown in week one against Titans starting cornerback Adoree Jackson. While that was quite impressive, considering he outran a player known for his speed, we haven’t seen much of Michel since then. Following that touchdown, he has recorded just one catch for 12 yards.

Heading into the final preseason game, I think the final spot is Greg Ward’s to lose. Ward is second on the team in receptions (6) and yards (87) this preseason. With the explosiveness that we’ve seen from Ward, especially on his touchdown in week two against Jacksonville, along with what he could add on special teams, he is the front-runner. While he is currently in the lead, this race is close enough that a strong performance this week from any of these three guys could catapult them onto the roster.

Lions Dominate the Head to Head
The Lions have taken on the Browns 20 times in their NFL history, with their first fixture coming in 1952, and have dominated the rivalry throughout most of that period. They’ve won seven of the last eight, including their latest meeting, two years ago, when they beat the Browns 38-24 at Ford Field. But it’s worth bearing in mind that throughout most of that period the Browns have been one of the poorest sides in the NFL. The current Cleveland outfit is very different.

Browns on the Up
After years as the NFL’s whipping boys, the Browns, led by Baker Mayfield, turned into one of the 2018 season’s success stories. They won five of their last seven and the franchise have gone all in this off-season, bringing in established stars Odell Beckham Jr, Kareem Hunt and Olivier Vernon. They won their first two warm-up games before a narrow loss in Tampa, but they are widely tipped to be a serious play-off contender in the weeks ahead.

Rocky Road for Detroit
Eight weeks into the 2018 season, the Lions had battled to a 3-4 record, but they ended up finishing bottom of the NFC North on 6-10. That decline can be traced to the decision to trade their most reliable receiver, Golden Tate. In his absence, quarterback Matthew Stafford was left with few options and, worryingly for Lions’ fans, their team hasn’t fully replaced Tate. The Lions are likely to be stronger defensively this time round, but they may have to be in order to compensate for a toothless offense, and with a touch early schedule, this could be another season of struggle.

A Chance for Fringe Players
The Browns are heavy favourites here, available at 4/9 but punters planning on lumping on Cleveland should note that the franchise will be using this game to trim their roster down to the regulation 53. That means none of the Browns starters or key back-ups are likely to feature, although that may not be enough to make the Lions an attractive bet at 13/8.

The New York Giants (3-0) and New England Patriots (3-0) tangle in Week 4 of NFL Preseason action. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET Thursday at Gillette Stadium.

Historically, most teams play their backups more in the preseason finale as they begin to prepare for the regular season. Don’t be shocked to see some plenty of depth players playing for roster spots.

New York Giants at New England Patriots: Preseason Week 4 game preview, betting trends and notes
The Patriots beat the Carolina Panthers 10-3 last weekend and covered the spread, but the two teams fell way short of the over.

The Patriots have scored 63 points in the preseason and have allowed 23 points.
The Giants squeaked by the Cincinnati Bengals 25-23 a week ago.
New York has scored 88 points in three preseason games, allowing 58.
Giants QB Daniel Jones will start. All eyes will be on him to see how he handles New England’s defense. Eli Manning gets the night off as he prepares for the regular season.
Does Giants WR Sterling Shepard (thumb) get a little time in this game? The answer is probably no. He’s expected to be ready for Week 1.
Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham expect to take most of the snaps in Tom Brady‘s place in this one. Last year, that was the plan New England went with and it appears to be the idea here. Do not expect to see Brady other than on the sidelines.
Patriots rookie WR Jakobi Meyers stood out again, catching seven balls for 74 yards on 12 targets last week. With some New England receivers nursing injuries, Meyers is still pushing to snag a spot on the final roster. Chances are looking good he may be a Patriot come Week 1.
WR Josh Gordon was reinstated by the NFL, but won’t be eligible to play in this one for the Patriots. He can play in Week 1 of the regular season.

The final preseason contest is often — if not, always — the least exciting and least important game of the preseason. Teams will rest all of their key starters and the game is mostly used to evaluate any of the fringe roster depth remaining. There will be a few players that it will be nice to get an extended look at, but aside from that, this game doesn’t have much meaning.

Here’s some food for thought on the final preseason game. In 2018, the Redskins saw Kevin Hogan throw for 272 yards, three touchdowns, and two picks in the final game while Rob Kelley and Simmie Cobbs Jr. led the team in rushing and receiving respectively. Only Kelley made the team and he isn’t even in the league anymore.

And in 2017, Nate Sudfeld, Mack Brown, and Matt Hazel were the statistical leaders in the final game for Washington. None made the squad.

The performance of certain players in this contest may give them an outside chance to sneak onto the roster. Or maybe the practice squad. But largely, this exhibition will be focused on just a couple of key players that see action. With that in mind, here’s an in-depth look at a preview for the Redskins’ game against the Baltimore Ravens and what to keep an eye on during the game.

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy is one of a number of NFL coaches who has thrown in the towel with pre-season play. He has kept all of his top weapons far away from action and will do the same again on Thursday against the Titans. Last week the Colts followed Nagy’s lead with their starters and don’t expect to recognize many of players Tennessee sends out unless you’ve memorized the Titans depth chart.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Tennessee Titans just aren’t a good pre-season bet lately. They were 0-4 straight up and against the spread (ATS) last year and are a combined 2-9 outright and ATS dating back to 2017. They opened as 2.5-point home underdogs here before moving up to +3. Meanwhile, despite Chicago’s nasty defence, the Bears have played over the total in seven of their last eight pre-season games.

Tennessee Titans
Nobody is going to get too bent out of shape over a pre-season loss, but the Titans didn’t look good in Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Titans coach Mike Vrabel pulled starting quarterback Marcus Mariota after he went 0-for-3 in two possessions behind a leaky offensive line. Tennessee gave up seven sacks and a safety in the 18-6 loss.

“We want to make sure that we can protect our quarterback — that’s important,” Vrabel said. “It’s imperative that we do that as a staff and we do that as an offensive group. … I wanted to see how the game was going, and at that point in time I thought it was in the team’s best interest and in everybody’s best interest that we get him out of the game at that point in time.”

Chicago Bears
The Bears picked up their first win of the pre-season in Indy and covered as 2.5-point underdogs in a game that was entirely overshadowed by Andrew Luck‘s retirement announcement. Chicago’s reserves erased a 17-7 deficit in the second quarter by scoring the game’s next 20 points to run away with the victory. Devan Bush took an interception 91 yards for a score and newly-appointed starting kicker Eddy Pineiro hit all five of his kicks – three extra points and two field goals (one from 58 yards). Quarterback Tyler completed 11 of 16 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown and will likely see a lot more work on Thursday.

No big names will be on the field for Big D on Thursday, but the Cowboys are hoping things will be different when the regular season begins in a little less than two weeks’ time. The Bucs travel to Texas with a practice squad quarterback expected to play the entire game.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sports Interaction opened with Dallas as 3-point favourites but the line has bumped up two points since. The Cowboys are now giving five points in their final pre-season tune-up against the Bucs.

The ‘Boys are coming off a 34-0 blowout of in-state rival Houston last week. Dallas is 2-1 straight up and against the spread this month. This comes as a bit of a surprise to seasoned NFL pre-season bettors. The Cowboys have been one of the best fade plays in exhibition contests since Jason Garrett became the head coach in 2010.

Dallas is 13-23-2 against the number in pre-season games with Garrett calling the shots on the sidelines. The Bucs are also 2-1 this month but their margin of victory is much smaller. Tampa Bay has won its two games by a combined three points and it lost in Week 1 28-30 to Pittsburgh.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs are dealing with a few injuries at the quarterback position. Top backup Blaine Gabbert will not play on Thursday after injuring his shoulder in Week 3. Starter Jameis Winston will not suit up along with the rest of the first team offence to avoid any chance of injury.

Head coach Bruce Arians is being just as cautious with his third string QB Ryan Griffin. That paves the way for Vincent Testaverde Jr. to get the start on Thursday night. Junior, the son of former NFL veteran quarterback Vinny, was cut from the Buccaneers only a few days ago.

He had a feeling he might get a call from the Bucs after Gabbert went down. Testaverde got an invite for the Bucs camp as an undrafted rookie free agent. He bounced around in his collegiate career and never got starter snaps until the second half of last season with Albany where he threw for 1714 yards and 11 TDs.

Dallas Cowboys
Cooper Rush is the clear winner of the backup QB competition in Dallas. That means bettors should expect to see lots of Mike White on Thursday night. White looked shaky in his first two pre-season appearances this summer, but cleaned up his act last week against the Texans.

The defending NFC champion Los Angeles Rams have felt confident and comfortable resting their starters for the entire preseason. They did it last year and they’re doing it again. The same can’t be said about the Houston Texans, who are coming off an absolutely devastating 34-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Not only did they lose the game, they also lost running back Lamar Miller to a torn ACL. They’ll hope to rebound against a team that really won’t be trying in this spot.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sean McVay has shown zero interest in chasing wins throughout this preseason. McVay, who insisted on sitting his starters for the entire exhibition slate, watched his team pick up their first preseason victory in an ugly 10-6 victory over the Denver Broncos last week. Still, Los Angeles is just 3-4 in exhibition games over the last two seasons combined with a good chance they suffer another defeat on the road this week.

Meanwhile, Houston has dropped two of its first three preseason games including last week’s blowout loss to Dallas. However, the Texans have finished with a losing record in the preseason only once in five years under Bill O’Brien, who is 13-8 all-time in exhibition games. There is a good chance that O’Brien will want to see his team bounce back from last week’s ugly loss with a strong performance in their final tune-up for the regular season this week.

Los Angeles Rams
Undrafted quarterback John Wolford threw the lone touchdown in last week’s 10-6 win over Denver. The Rams backups on defense did an excellent job keeping the Broncos’ backups to six points on offense. Meanwhile, Wolford and Brandon Allen did just enough to squeeze out a victory. Those two should see all of the snaps once again versus the Texans. Second-year running back John Kelly and rookie third-round pick Darrell Henderson should continue to see the bulk of the snaps on the ground. That tandem combined for 60 yards on 21 carries in the win over Denver.

Los Angeles did lose linebacker Josh Carraway and center Aaron Neary to season-ending injuries against the Broncos. With so much concern over the potential for additional injuries, there is a good chance McVay does everything he can to keep key contributors on the sideline this week.

Houston Texans
Things didn’t get any better for the Texans following Miller’s injury. Quarterback Deshaun Watson was sacked twice, lost a fumble and then took a seat with more question marks about his performance than answers.

Is Houston’s offensive line good enough to hold up and protect Watson this season? Or is it only a matter of time before he is sidelined with a major injury? Watson won’t see the field this week, but Joe Webb III and undrafted rookie Jordan Ta’amu will be trying to prove they deserve the backup job behind Watson. That tandem struggled mightily in last week’s loss to Denver, combining to go 10-of-26 for 88 yards and two interceptions while taking seven sacks.

The Texans don’t have much to play for, but they do have a little more going for them than the Rams with a focus on generating some positive momentum heading in to the regular season.

The New Orleans Saints will enter the 2019 season as major players in the Super Bowl picture. First, they need to get past one final preseason dress rehearsal.

This game means very little to the Saints but the Miami Dolphins could still be sorting out their starting quarterback situation. That adds a little intrigue to this Week 4 showdown where the Saints are small favorites.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Miami has bookended a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a pair of wins over the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars. Head Coach Brian Flores has done his best to maximize the talent at his disposal.

It will be interesting to see how many snaps Flores gives to key players in their preseason finale.

Meanwhile, New Orleans is coming off back-to-back wins to improve to 2-1 this preseason. The Saints haven’t finished with a winning record in the preseason since 2014 when they went 4-0. Sean Payton’s group is 7-11 in exhibition contests since 2015. The Saints are also just 2-11 in Game four of the preseason under Payton.

Miami Dolphins
A 99-yard touchdown drive by Josh Rosen was a pleasant sight for Dolphins fans that are hoping the second-year quarterback can become a franchise star. Rosen went 5-of-7 for 59 yards in last week’s 22-7 win over the Jaguars. Meanwhile, Ryan Fitzpatrick was solid as well, going 12-of-18 for 126 yards and a score. The battle between the two could continue into this game.

The Dolphins also have an open competition at running back where Kalen Ballage, Mark Walton and Chandler Cox continue to fight for a role behind Kenyan Drake. Miami’s offense has put together some impressive performances this preseason. They will need another one to keep up with a high-scoring Saints offense that should put up some impressive totals – even with Brees watching from the sideline.

New Orleans Saints
New Orleans has arguably the most talented stable of quarterbacks in the NFL. Even with Brees watching from the sideline, the Saints will still be able to send out Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill against the Dolphins this week. That’s really why they’re favored in this spot. Bridgewater went 15-of-26 for 143 yards in last week’s 28-13 win over the New York Jets. Meanwhile, Hill went 8-of-13 for 127 yards in the victory. Look for that tandem to carve up the backups on the Miami defense.

The New Orleans defense has held its last two opponents to an average of 15.0 points in consecutive wins. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Saints managed to do the same thing in a blowout win over the Dolphins in their final preseason contest.

The Kansas City Chiefs have one goal in mind for the 2019 NFL season: win it all. As one of the Super Bowl favorites, the regular season can’t arrive soon enough.

The Chiefs will make their final stop of the preseason when they visit the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night. As is the case with most teams around the league, neither the Chiefs nor the Packers will field many starters in Week 4 of the preseason. While neither team should be worried very much at all about this week’s result, both sides still have a few things to work out in their final dress rehearsals. Here is a closer look at the matchup between Kansas City and Green Bay.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Andy Reid’s teams have traditionally performed well in preseason action, delivering an 11-7 record over the past five seasons. The Chiefs aren’t going to do anything extra in order to get a result in Week 4 of the exhibition slate, but it’s worth keeping in mind that Reid’s teams haven’t finished worse than .500 in a preseason since 2014. His teams are 9-11 in Week 4, though.

Meanwhile, Matt LaFleur’s Packers have followed up a close win over the Houston Texans with back-to-back victories over the Baltimore Ravens and Oakland Raiders in his first preseason stint as their bench boss. We don’t have a ton of historical intel on him since this is his first year as ahead coach.

Kansas City Chiefs
While the games don’t count in the standings, that doesn’t mean important things don’t happen in the preseason. Damien Williams has left zero doubt that he is the unquestioned starting running back for this team heading in to the season. Williams will likely see his snap count limited if he plays at all this week, which will open the door for Darwin Thompson and Darrell Williams to handle the bulk of the workload. Carlos Hyde is still in the mix but he’s expected to get cut. This will be his last call to show he belongs.

The Chiefs have a number of defensive players to keep an eye on including rookie second round pick safety Juan Thornhill. Thornhill is a very skilled young playmaker but he isn’t ready to start full-time yet. Week 4 of the preseason will provide him with another opportunity to showcase his skill set and gain some valuable reps.

Green Bay Packers
While Aaron Rodgers will be watching this game from the sideline, the Packers have a number of important position battles still going on. Rookie guard Lane Taylor is fighting to gain a starting job over left guard Elgton Jenkins.

Taylor is extremely talented but he will likely need a year of experience before he is ready to overtake Jenkins as a starter. Meanwhile, Taylor will be helping to protect quarterbacks DeShone Kizer and Tim Boyle as they continue to battle for the backup job. Kizer has been very inconsistent this preseason while Boyle has continued to impress in exhibition games. Green Bay has invested more in Kizer, so it will be on Boyle to prove that he really does deserve the backup position.

Whose third-stringers are better? That’s about all the 32 NFL teams have left to settle in their Week 4 pre-season matchups, including a Thursday night encounter between the visiting Arizona Cardinals and the Denver Broncos. But bettors shouldn’t automatically assume that a lack of starters or backups will translate into boring football – particularly when it comes to the Cardinals and the Broncos, both of whom still have starting spots up for grabs.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Denver opened as a standard three-point home favourite, but that line has shifted ever so slightly to -2.5 – and that’s a major difference to bettors, who might be more inclined to take the home team to cover without having to worry about a buzz-killing push. But the Broncos have failed to cover in each of their previous three pre-season games, while the Cardinals have limited opponents to a combined 38 points in their last three pre-season road contests.

The total for this one is a rock-bottom 33 – and while that might make sense given that neither team’s studs will be on the field, it’s worth considering that 10 of 16 games in the final week of the 2018 pre-season produced 35 or more total points, while nine saw 40 or more points scored. On the other hand, these teams combined for just 31 points when they met in the final week of last year’s exhibition schedule, and Denver is on a five-game pre-season under streak.

Arizona Cardinals
With Hakeem Butler out for the season with a knee injury, two other young receiver prospects are looking like candidates for the Cardinals’ WR4 spot behind Larry Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk and Michael Crabree (once he’s back in game shape). KeeSean Johson and Damiere Byrd have looked good so far in the pre-season and could be in the mix, along with Andy Isabella, for that coveted final spot in Kliff Kingsbury’s four-receiver sets; both should see action Thursday.

Denver Broncos
The final game of the pre-season might not mean much to the majority of the players destined to make the Broncos’ 53-man roster, but for River Cracraft, it could mean the difference between a Week 1 roster spot and a date with the practice squad. Cracraft has taken on some of the special teams responsibilities and has looked good doing so; with the Broncos likely to carry five or six receivers, he goes into this week very much on the bubble.

The Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers meet Thursday in NFL preseason action at Levi's Stadium.

The Los Angeles Chargers are 0-3 in preseason play after a 15-23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Easton Stick and Tyrod Taylor combined for 143 passing yards and one touchdown. Taylor led the Chargers with 34 yards on six carries, while Artavis Scott had 66 receiving yards on four receptions. Defensively, Drue Tranquill led the Chargers with nine tackles, Chris Peace had one sack and Isaac Rochell had one tackle for loss. The Los Angeles Chargers are one of those teams that haven’t played their starters much at all, so it’s tough to judge them based on meaningless play. The Chargers are one of the more balanced teams in the league and as long as Philip Rivers doesn’t enter the regular season with much rust, this is a club capable of very special things. The Los Angeles Chargers have lost five of their last seven preseason games.

The San Francisco 49ers are 3-0 in preseason play after a 27-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Jimmy Garoppolo and Nick Mullens combined for 257 passing yards and one touchdown. Jeff Wilson Jr. led the 49ers with 45 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, while Richie James had 66 receiving yards on four receptions. Defensively, Damontre' Moore led the 49ers with five tackles, Arik Armstead had 0.5 sacks and Jay Bromley had 0.5 sacks. The San Francisco 49ers have probably been the most impressive team through three weeks of preseason, as both sides of the ball have been consistent, and now they just got solid play from Garoppolo. While preseason success has little to do with what happens in the regular season, this has been a successful three weeks for the 49ers and indicates they may be on the right track. The San Francisco 49ers have split their last six preseason games.

The Chargers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Thursday games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games. The 49ers are 7-16 ATS in their last 23 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The road team is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings and the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings. The under is 9-3 in 49ers last 12 Thursday games. The under is 7-3-1 in Chargers last 11 Thursday games.

The San Francisco 49ers have been one arguably the best team this preseason and have done some of their best work from the backups. The Los Angeles Chargers are winless this preseason and have lost five of their last seven meaningless games overall. Hard not to back the 49ers here based on how they've played up to this point.

The start of the regular season can’t come soon enough for a pair of West Coast teams – but for very different reasons as the Oakland Raiders visit the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night. For the Raiders, the start of the season kicks off a pivotal chapter in the franchise’s history – namely, its final season in Oakland before the franchise departs for Las Vegas. The Seahawks are just hoping to get through this week without losing any more skill players.



NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
As with the rest of the lines for Week 4 of the pre-season, the home side opened as a three- point fave – but Seattle has since been bet down to -2.5, and that’s a big help for those siding with the hosts who no longer have to worry about the push. Seattle is 2-1 ATS in this exhibition season and 9-4 ATS in its previous 13 pre-season games overall; Oakland has covered five straight and six of seven since a seven-game cover-less streak.

Oddsmakers aren’t expecting these teams to light the field on fire, placing the total at 33.5. Last year’s final pre-season week produced nine games of 40+ combined points – including the Raiders’ 30-19 triumph over the Seahawks in their Aug. 30 meeting. The Raiders have gone above the total twice in their first three pre-season games in 2019, while the Seahawks have converted the under in eight of their previous 11 exhibition contests overall.

Oakland Raiders
The Raiders come in as one of the top pre-season teams in the league over the past two years, having won six of their past seven games. But the focus Thursday will be on position battles over finishing with an unbeaten exhibition record in 2019 – and one of the big ones could be at wide receiver, where Marcell Ateman will look to make the final roster. Ateman is likely battling undrafted free agent Keelan Doss, who has been the superior player to date.

Seattle Seahawks
Between the retirement of Doug Baldwin and injuries to David Moore and D.K. Metcalf, the Seahawks will happily give the rest of their starting wide receiver stable the night off. The running back situation, however, is still very much in flux – at least, behind Chris Carson. Rashaad Penny was thought to have the inside track on the RB2 role, but he could face a major challenge from C.J. Prosise – at least, as long as the latter can stay healthy.

The owner of the Dallas Cowboys doesn’t sound overly concerned about the absence of his mega-star running back – but he might be singing a different tune after this weekend as the Cowboys host the rival Houston Texans in a Saturday night pre-season encounter. Tony Pollard has looked impressive with Ezekiel Elliott still entrenched in a holdout, but Pollard could be in tough if he’s tasked with facing the starters from a daunting Texans defence.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Cowboys opened as slight 1 ½-point favourites, but bettors have pulled the line down to a pick ‘em. Dallas has been a truly terrible cover option in recent pre-season history, having gone 2-8-2 ATS in its previous 12 exhibition contests. The Cowboys are an almost-as-bad 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 pre-season home games. Houston, on the other hand, is an impressive 8-4-1 ATS in its last 13 pre-season games but is just 1-4 ATS in the last five road contests.

The total for this one has remained steady at 40.5, a slight increase from the totals bettors were treated two over the first two weeks of the pre-season. The Texans have gone above the total in four of their past six exhibition road games following a six-game under streak, and are 3-1 O/U in their last four overall. The Cowboys come in riding a five-game consecutive under run, and have seen more than 30 total points scored in just one game over that span.

Houston Texans
The Texans are one of the few teams in the NFL with little left to decide on the offensive side of the football – but that doesn’t mean less time for the starters on offence. Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins needed just one drive to connect on a TD last week, and will look to continue their chemistry building Saturday. Lamar Miller and Duke Johnson head into the season as the top-two running backs on the depth chart; they should both see at least one series.

Dallas Cowboys
Pollard has looked great so far, turning nine carries into 58 yards and a touchdown. But the Texans boasted one of the top run defences in the NFL last season, limiting teams to 82.7 rushing yards per game (third-best in the league) on 3.4 yard per carry (best in the league). Look for quarterback Dak Prescott to try and work out the kinks in Week 3, which could prove challenging with star receiver Amari Cooper expected to sit out with plantar fasciitis.

The Indianapolis Colts will be holding their starers out of the preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, but there are still competitions taking place all over the field.

With the starters not expected to see any time on the field, this will give some of the depth players a bigger opportunity to showcase their talent—either for the Colts or for another team if they get waived.

Neither Andrew Luck or Jacoby Brissett is expected to play on Saturday. This means the game will be split between Chad Kelly and Phillip Walker, both of which are fighting for the QB3 spot on the depth chart.

Kelly has been the better quarterback through two preseason games, but Walker has been the one to come in after Brissett. Though this position won’t have a massive impact on the team, it is still important to see who wins the battle.

With Brissett’s contract ending after the 2019 season, the winner of this competition could very well be the backup in 2020.

It’ll be the second-year gunslinger facing off against the future Hall of Famer – at least for a series or two – when the New York Jets entertain the New Orleans Saints on Saturday night in Week 3 of the pre-season. Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will look to build some rapport with his receiving corps in what should be his most significant audition of the pre-season, while Saints counterpart Drew Brees will see what will likely be his only action prior to Week 1 kickoff.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Jets opened as ever-so-slight one-point underdogs, but the line has moved all the way to +3 – due in no small part to the confirmation that Jets running back Le’Veon Bell won’t see the field until the regular season. The Saints have covered three of their previous four pre-season road games following a five-game losing streak, while the Jets enter Saturday night’s game having successfully covered six of their last eight exhibition home contests.

This game has one of the higher totals of the week at 42.5, and recent pre-season trends on both sides would suggest that the under will be a popular option. The Jets have gone below the number in seven consecutive home games in the preseason, limiting opponents to just 12.4 points per game over that stretch. The Saints have converted the under in 10 of their last 13 preseason outings, with nine of those coming in below 40 total points.

New Orleans Saints
How many snaps will Brees play? Saints head coach Sean Payton wouldn’t tip his hand when speaking with reporters earlier this week, but it’s worth noting that Brees has averaged 22 snaps in Week 3 of the previous two pre-seasons. We’d guess that the Saints won’t leave Brees out on the field too long, especially considering the Jets racked up five sacks and a ridiculous 14 quarterback hits in their Week 2 game vs. the Atlanta Falcons.

New York Jets
It might bother Jets fans to see the team’s prized off-season acquisition not play a pre-season snap. But head coach Adam Gase says that Bell, who missed the 2018 season in a contract dispute with Pittsburgh, has shown enough in practice that the team doesn’t think he needs any pre-season work. The Kansas City Chiefs (1-1) will play host at Arrowhead Stadium to the San Francisco 49ers (2-0) Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET in NFL Preseason Week 3 action. We should see the most out of both starting units that we’ve seen this preseason.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has seen action in both preseason games, going 6-for-9 while throwing for 77 yards in brief appearances. Look for more than just a cameo.
49ers faithful are hoping last week was a shake-the-rust-off game for QB Jimmy Garoppolo, who hit just 1 of 6 passes for no yards and tossed an interception. That’s a QB raking of 0.0 for those keeping track at home. Garoppolo, who only played three games last year, has a total of 10 starts under his belt entering his seventh season.
Keep an eye on how the Chiefs use RBs Darwin Thompson, a rookie, and veteran Carlos Hyde. Presumed starter Damien Williams (hamstring) has missed time and hasn’t played in the preseason, but returned to practice this week. Thompson might have played himself into the top backup role thus far….

The Chiefs have scored 45 points in their two preseason games, but the results were drastically different. They dropped 38 points on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, winning 38-17. In Week 2, versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Chiefs lost 17-7.
The 49ers beat the Dallas Cowboys 17-9 during Week 1 of preseason play and the Denver Broncos 24-15 during Week 2.
A year ago, the Chiefs scored on 60.5% of their first-half drives, which was best in the league. The league average was just 37.0%!  They also scored on 57.5% of their first quarter drives, tops in the league (league average: 28.8%). The Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Rams will match up in NFL preseason Week 3 action on Saturday.

Denver is coming out of a 2018 campaign that saw them finish 6-10 and in third place in the AFC West, missing the playoffs. The Broncos were plagued by poor offensive performances the entire season and couldn’t find their footing on that side of the ball.

The Broncos have made three preseason appearances thus far, starting out with a 14-10 win over the Falcons in the Hall of Fame Game and a 22-14 loss to the Seahawks the following week. Denver then played the 49ers on Monday, falling 24-15.

Over on the Rams’ side, they’re coming off a successful regular-season campaign at 13-3 last year. Los Angeles made it all the way to the Super Bowl, where they would fall by 10 to the New England Patriots.

In preseason action so far this year, the Rams are 0-2. LA kicked things off with a 14-3 loss to the Raiders, then fell again to the Cowboys 14-10 last Saturday with Blake Bortles tossing the team’s first TD of the year.

The Broncos are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four Saturday games. Denver is also 0-4 ATS in their last four overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four on grass.

Meanwhile, the Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight home games. LA is 1-5 ATS in their last six Saturday games and the over is 5-1 in their last six home games.

With the short turnaround this week, we’ll probably see Denver hold back a little tighter in this one, but some of the key guys will get ample playing time. The Broncos really need to put some points on the board here to gain momentum heading into the regular season.

The Rams will probably continue with the vanilla setup here as well. That said, LA’s “toned down” offense is still better than a lot of teams in the league. I like the Rams to jump out to a lead early here and cruise to a cover if the line isn't too bad.

A resting of one key player is impacting the spread in the Seahawks-Chargers contest this weekend. Philip Rivers won’t suit up for the Chargers and bettors are backing Seattle to make short work of the Bolts with their crew of backup QBs.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Seahawks went from 2-point underdogs to 3-point favourites in the span of a few days. Seattle is coming off a 25-19 setback to the Minnesota Vikings last week. Quarterback Russell Wilson saw some action in that game and completed six of his nine pass attempts for 82 yards.

Pete Carroll’s club took down the Broncos 22-14 in the week prior. The Seahawks won and covered seven out of eight pre-season games from 2016 to 2017. But the squad is 1-5 straight up in its last six August matchups.

Los Angeles lost 19-17 to New Orleans last week and pushed as a 2-point dog. The Bolts lost and failed to cover in their Week 1 pre-season contest against the Arizona Cardinals. LA is 4-12 SU in its last 16 games in August.

Bettors are expecting big things from the Chargers this season. The team’s season win total is set at 9.5 (over -160) and Sports Interaction lists Los Angeles at +1400 to win the Super Bowl.

Seattle’s win total rests at 8.5 with more money coming in on the over. The Seahawks are the second favourites behind the Rams to win the NFC West at +301.

Seattle Seahawks
Head coach Pete Carroll isn’t saying exactly how much his starters will play on Saturday. He told reporters that all his players will see time, and that there will be plenty of action for backup quarterback Geno Smith.

Expect Russell Wilson to start with Smith coming on sometime during the second quarter to relieve the Pro Bowl QB. Former Ohio State standout JT Barrett will serve as the third-string quarterback.

Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers are normally limit Rivers’ exposure in the pre-season, but it did come as a surprise that the 37-year-old was ruled out. Rivers is coming off one of his finest seasons as a pro. He finished the 2018 campaign with 32 TD passes against 12 interceptions.

Former Bills starter Tyrod Taylor should see the majority of action at quarterback for the Bolts. Cardelle Jones will back him up, and Easton Stick will get the mop-up duty in the fourth quarter.

Rookie first-overall pick quarterback Kyler Murray looked great in his first pre-season game and awful in the second. After stumbling against the Oakland Raiders last week, can he get back on track on Saturday to renew optimism? A second consecutive struggle would be cause for concern.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Shocked to see a team laying a touchdown in the pre-season? The oddsmakers are simply adjusting to Mike Zimmer, who has one of the best exhibition records in the NFL. The Vikings are 19-4 in pre-season games under him. His teams are also a perfect 5-0 in Week 3.

On the other sideline, there has been a lot of talk about whether Kliff Kingsbury is a head coach that can turn things around in Arizona this offseason. Kingsbury has split his first two exhibition games as a first-time NFL head coach. He is expected to give his starters more playing time in Week 3.

Arizona Cardinals
Murray will have his work cut out for him against a Minnesota defense that features several starters in the lineup this week. Murray, who showed some positive signs in his debut against the Chargers, looked very flustered at times in last week’s loss to Oakland. Kingsbury needs to get a good look at his rookie quarterback this week so we expect Murray to play a significant number of snaps in his third exhibition game.

Meanwhile, those hoping that running back David Johnson can get back to the level he played at in 2016 should probably temper expectations. Kingsbury’s offense relies heavily on moving the football through the air, which should limit Johnson’s production. With a new system in place and a young passer under center, the Cardinals will certainly have their share of growing pains this season.

Minnesota Vikings
Zimmer has done his best to maximize his opportunities to test his players in pre-season games since taking over as the head coach in Minnesota. He has shown that again this year with consecutive exhibition game wins. Kirk Cousins, Sean Mannion and Kyle Sloter certainly looked good in Sunday’s 25-19 win over the Seattle Seahawks. That quarterback trio combined to go 28-of-35 for 272 yards and a pair of touchdowns. That comes on the heels of a 34-point outburst in Week 1 where the team piled up 460 yards of offense and four touchdowns.

The Vikings defense also looked good versus Seattle. Minnesota held the Seahawks to just 145 yards on 12-of-27 passing with an interception. With the starters set to see extended snaps on Saturday, the Vikings defense could make life miserable for Murray and the Cardinals.

The Cleveland Browns (2-0 in the preseason) will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-1) Friday in the all-important Week 3 of the exhibition slate, when most teams’ starters will get a significant snap count if healthy. Kickoff lines up for 7:30 p.m. ET.

playMGM sets the Browns’ regular-season wins line at nine in 2019, with the under the slight favorite at -125.
The Buccaneers have a tightly contested split on their 6.5-win prognosis, with the over at -110 and the under at -120.
Cleveland has won its first two preseason contests, 30-10 over Washington and, most recently, 21-18 over the Colts. QB Baker Mayfield woke up feeling dangerous in the opener, going 5-for-6 for 77 yards and a score but he didn’t log a pass in Week 2. Backup leader Garrett Gilbert has thrown for at least 135 passing yards in each warm-up contest and found the end zone twice last weekend.

The Buccaneers fell 30-28 to the Steelers in practice Week 1 but rebounded for a 16-14 victory over the Dolphins in Week 2. QB Jameis Winston only played the opening series in each warm-up contest but has more palpable upside this year playing in Tampa Bay’s new Bruce Arians offense.
Tampa Bay’s biggest standout has been first-season reserve RB Dare Ogunbowale, who planted two scores in the first outing and collected 88 scrimmage yards last week. He’s trying to knock on the door behind Jones and presumed two-down option Peyton Barber.
Despite a quiet Week 2, WR Rashard Higgins went 5-98-1 for Cleveland in Week 1. The fourth-year snare averaged a useful 14.7 yards per catch with the Dawg Pound last season.

Cleveland Browns at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Key Injuries
Starters typically play the most exhibition reps in Week 3, but newly acquired Cleveland WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) is unlikely to suit up. Browns CB Denzel Ward (undisclosed) is expected to give it a go, though keep an eye on TE David Njoku (knee), who’s day-to-day after missing Week 2.
The Buccaneers aren’t without their share of major health issues, though. Mike Evans (quadriceps/groin) joins OBJ as a star wideout doubtful to play. RB Ronald Jones II has swelling in his left knee after playing through an apparently hyperextended knee last week.

Outside of perhaps Tampa Bay’s backfield distribution, these two squads don’t have many offensive position battles to determine and probably will just feed reps to the starters — those who aren’t hobbled, at least — for one half, max. Emerging Browns RB Nick Chubb didn’t play in Week 2 but should get some run here.
